Hi Steve - Apologies for the delay in responding to your question. Yes, sand that is sourced in this way will be washed to remove impurities and in particular the salt which would be detrimental to its application as a building material. Many thanks

Product Overview
Sharp sand supplied in an 800kg bulk bag, consisting of coarse, angular-grained natural aggregate with minimal fines or clay.
Its gritty texture compacts well while remaining free-draining, making it suitable for concrete, screeds, bedding paving, drainage, and turf preparation.
Often used in both structural and landscaping applications, it combines stability with permeability, ensuring strength under load while preventing water build-up.
Please Note: Bulk bag weight may differ by ±5% due to moisture content. Colour and shade vary naturally. This is a construction-grade material, not decorative sand.
Features & Benefits
- Coarse angular grains: Interlock tightly when compacted, creating a stable and durable surface.
- Free-draining structure: Allows water to pass through quickly, reducing pooling and waterlogging.
- Grey-brown natural colour: Neutral aggregate appearance, blending into cement and soil mixes.
- Naturally sourced (often seabeds): Quality-controlled but may vary slightly in moisture and shade.
- Versatile construction and landscaping use: Suitable for paving, screeding, concrete, drainage, and turfing.
- Strength and crack resistance: Reduces the risk of cracking in screeds, mortars, and sub-base layers.
- Long shelf life: Dry, inert material that can be stored for extended periods without degradation.
- 800kg bulk bag supply: Reduces downtime and reordering, keeping larger projects on schedule.
- HIAB crane offloading: Delivered via a vehicle equipped with a heavy-duty crane arm to allow for precise kerbside placement. Ensure the delivery site has sufficient access for a large HGV and is clear of overhead obstructions for crane operation.
Applications
- Paving and patio bedding: Creates a stable, free-draining laying course beneath blocks, slabs, and flags.
- Concrete and screeds: Mixes with cement and coarse aggregates for strong concrete and levelling screeds.
- Render scratch coats: Provides a mechanical key in traditional sand-and-cement base coats before top coat application.
- Drainage and soakaways: Facilitates effective water management when used in pipe bedding and soakaway systems.
- Turf and lawn maintenance: Assists with soil aeration, top dressing, and levelling ground for natural or artificial turf.
- Pipe and cable bedding: Provides a stable, uniform support layer for underground utility installations to prevent pipe stress.
- Sub-base levelling: Acts as a fine-tuning material to level uneven ground before the application of heavier base materials.
- Pond liner protection: Acts as a protective cushioning layer beneath underlay to prevent punctures from subsoil rocks or roots.
- Structural masonry mortar: Added to mortar mixes to increase load-bearing strength for walls requiring greater durability.
- Horticultural drainage: Mixed into compost or potting soil to improve aeration and moisture regulation for cacti and succulents.
Installation Guidance
- Prepare the excavation: Ensure the sub-grade or hardcore base is fully compacted and free of organic matter before application.
- Verify moisture content: Adjust water addition in cementitious mixes based on the ambient moisture level of the sand to maintain workability.
- Maintain consistent depth: Spread the material evenly using a rake or screed bar to achieve the specified thickness for the laying course.
- Compact in layers: Use a vibrating plate compactor or hand rammer on depths exceeding 50mm to ensure the angular grains lock together.
- Check levels accurately: Use a spirit level or laser level to ensure a consistent fall for drainage when bedding paving or slabs.
- Mix ratios strictly: Follow industry-standard proportions for screeds (typically 1:3 to 1:4.5) to ensure the required compressive strength is met.
- Control dust migration: Dampen the material slightly during dry or windy conditions to prevent the loss of fines and improve onsite visibility.
- Mechanical lifting only: Use a forklift, HIAB, or telehandler with certified lifting strops to move the 800kg bulk bag safely.
Compliance & Performance
- Aggregate grading: Coarse, angular particles screened for consistent sharp sand performance.
- Service class: Suitable for external groundwork, sub-bases, cementitious mixes, and landscaping applications.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.

Questions and Answers
If this product is seabed sourced has it been washed to remove the salt content?
For a 53M2 Porcelean Tiling in Garden - how many bags should I order?
The amount of sand required really depends on the overall sub-base that will be laid for the patio area. Unless there is already a concrete base down, you should install MOT 1 sub-base first, and then a mortar bed [sand and cement] to lay the porcelain slabs on to. It is recommended that the mortar bed for porcelain slabs be 30 to 40mm deep. For this thickness you will need approximately 4 bulk bags of sharp sand to cover 52 m2. You would also require 28 25kg bags of cement to mix with the sand based on a ratio of 5:1. I hope this assists.
