Product Overview

Soft building sand supplied in an 800kg bulk bag, consisting of fine-textured natural aggregate with natural clay content.

Its fine, even grading produces mortar that is simple to prepare, grips firmly to masonry, and delivers a clean finish. Suitable for bricklaying, pointing, rendering, and blockwork in both internal and external applications.

Features & Benefits

  • Fine soft-grained sand: Produces smooth, workable mortar mixes with a neat finish.
  • Contains natural clay particles: Enhances mortar cohesion and bond strength in bricklaying.
  • Warm natural colour (varies by source): Blends well with cement for consistent joint appearance.
  • Locally sourced from quarries or seabeds: Reliable quality, though shade and moisture levels may vary.
  • Versatile construction use: Suitable for bricklaying, pointing, rendering, bedding, and general building.
  • Bulk project efficiency: Ideal for producing large mortar volumes quickly with heavy-duty mixing equipment.
  • 800kg bulk bag supply: Reduces downtime and reordering, keeping larger projects on schedule.
  • HIAB crane offloading: Delivered via a vehicle equipped with a heavy-duty crane arm to allow for precise kerbside placement. Ensure the delivery site has sufficient access for a large HGV and is clear of overhead obstructions for crane operation.

Applications

  • General brick and block laying: Produces a soft, workable mortar that allows for the easy positioning and precise vertical alignment of masonry units.
  • Internal plastering and rendering: Serves as the primary aggregate in traditional sand-and-cement finishes for creating smooth, flat internal wall surfaces.
  • Pointing and repointing: Creates a refined, workable mix perfect for finishing joints in brickwork where a neat, consistent aesthetic is required.
  • Chimney and fireplace work: Used in mortar mixes for flue liners and hearths to create tight, uniform, and stable joints resistant to air leakage.
  • Mortar repairs: Ideal for filling minor cracks in existing masonry and achieving a seamless finish that matches the texture of older mortar joints.
  • Bedding for ridge tiles: Provides a cohesive and pliable base for securing clay or concrete ridge tiles on pitched roof systems.
  • Screeding small areas: Suitable for light-duty floor levelling in small internal areas when mixed with a high cement content.

Installation Guidance

  • Mix with appropriate binders: Combine with cement and lime, or use a plasticiser, in standard ratios such as 4:1 or 6:1 to achieve the required structural strength.
  • Control water content: Add water gradually during the mixing process to prevent the mortar from becoming too "sloppy," which reduces bond strength and increases mess.
  • Prepare surfaces clean: Ensure all bricks or blocks are free from dust and excessive moisture to allow for maximum mortar adhesion.
  • Strike joints at the correct time: Wait for the mortar to become "thumb-print" hard before finishing the joints with a pointing tool for the cleanest result.
  • Protect from the elements: Cover fresh masonry with hessian or polythene in extreme heat or frost to prevent the mortar from drying too quickly or freezing.
  • Handle bulk safely: Use mechanical lifting equipment for the 800kg bag to prevent manual handling risks and ensure safe distribution on site.

Compliance & Performance

  • Aggregate grading: Fine-grained particles screened for consistent quality and workability in accordance with general masonry standards.
  • Service class: Suitable for general masonry construction, internal plastering, and refined jointing work in protected or exposed conditions.
  • Material sourcing: Naturally quarried or sea-dredged; washed to ensure low salt and organic content for better cement compatibility.
  • Important note: Bulk bag weight may differ by ±5% due to variations in moisture content. Colour and shade vary naturally by region. This is a construction-grade material and is not suitable for drainage-critical applications or as a sub-base for heavy paving.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
