What Is Plastering Sand?

Plastering sand is a fine-grained sand used for plastering and rendering walls, ceilings, and other surfaces. Its use in plastering is vital in determining the finished texture and compactness of dried plaster.

Characterised by its fine texture, plastering sand comprises smaller grains than both building sand and sharp sand and is meticulously sieved to remove large particles and impurities, ensuring a consistent grain size and smooth application.

Its primary uses include wall and ceiling plastering, rendering exterior surfaces, and repairing existing plasterwork. A common plaster mix consists of one part cement to 4-6 parts plastering sand, blended with water to achieve a smooth, workable consistency.

The high quality of plastering sand bulk bags contributes to the smoothness, durability, and ease of application of the plaster, resulting in even surfaces that are ideal for painting or further decoration.

The quality of the sand will always remain the same, but the weight might vary due to moisture content. This sand is sourced from sea beds, and excess moisture might be present in the bags.

Weight may vary by +/- 5%.

Where Is Plastering Sand Used?

  • Suitable for use in plastering, bedding and rendering.
  • Can be used for internal and external rendering.
  • Compatible with external brickwork projects.
  • It is often used in conjunction with building materials such as brick and plaster.
  • Can be mixed with water, cement and lime to produce a finer render for both internal and external walls.

Plastering Sand Features Benefits

  • Can be used with decorative aggregates and small stones in outdoor displays.
  • Smooth finish.
  • Consistent quality.
  • Large bag.
  • Finer particles than sharp sand and building sand.

Rendering Sand Weight

Plastering sand is typically made from sea bed sand. It is because of this, that the pack quantity of each shipment will vary, due to potential excess moisture.

No matter what size plastering sand bulk bag you choose, customers should account for 5% less or more weight.
