This product is our standard concrete block, suitable for a wide range of applications. We source it from various distributors across the UK, all of whom meet the required standards for quality and strength. However, not all of these blocks are certified to BS EN 12620. If BS EN 12620 certification is essential for your project, we recommend ordering a branded product such as Celcon, which comes with confirmed BBA certification. Alternatively, please contact the Materials Market team before purchasing so we can ensure the product meets your project requirements.

What Is a 100mm Solid Dense 7.3N Block?
100mm Solid Dense 7.3N Block is a solid masonry block manufactured from a dense aggregate of sand, cement, and crushed stone. It is produced to a standard size of 440mm x 215mm x 100mm and is defined by its minimum compressive strength of 7.3 Newtons per square millimetre (N/mm²).
This strength rating verifies its suitability for load-bearing applications. The block's high density gives it specific physical properties related to mass, such as excellent sound insulation and durability.
Its manufacture and properties are governed by the European standard BS EN 771-3. Here’s a quick breakdown of what this means for your project:
- BS EN: This signifies a unified British and European Norm (Standard). It means the product meets standards that are respected both nationally and internationally.
- 771-3: This is the specific "rulebook" for aggregate concrete blocks.
Applications
- Foundations: The standard choice for constructing foundation walls and sleeper walls below the Damp Proof Course (DPC).
- Internal Load-Bearing Walls: Used to support upper floors, ceilings, and roof structures.
- Party & Separating Walls: Ideal for building robust walls between dwellings that provide both fire and sound resistance.
- External Wall Construction: Forms the structural inner leaf of a traditional cavity wall or a solid wall that is designed to be protected by render, cladding, or other weatherproof finishes.
- Structural Partitions: Ideal for creating solid and durable internal partitions in any area of a building.
Benefits
- Structural Strength: With a certified compressive strength of 7.3N/mm², it provides a reliable and robust solution for load-bearing structures.
- Acoustic Insulation: The high mass of the block creates an effective barrier to airborne sound, making it ideal for party walls and internal partitions where reducing noise transfer is important.
- Inherent Durability: Dense concrete composition is highly resilient to physical impact and abrasion, ensuring a long service life.
- Fire Resistance: As a non-combustible material, it holds a Euroclass A1 fire rating, contributing to the overall fire safety of a building.
- Secure Base for Fixings: Solid structure provides a strong, reliable background for securely anchoring heavy items like radiators, kitchen units, and shelving using appropriate fixings.
- Frost Resistance: Manufactured to be frost-resistant, making it suitable for use in external applications as part of a detailed walling system.
