Hardware & Installation Guidance

Please note that these Ladder Semi Solid Doors are supplied as door leaves only, without hardware. This allows you complete freedom to select handles, hinges, latches, or locks that perfectly match your desired style, finish, and functional requirements.

Standard internal door hardware is required for fitting. Due to the increased weight of the semi-solid core compared to hollow doors, it is recommended to use three hinges per door. Ensure the hinges chosen are suitable for the door's weight and the standard 35mm thickness.

When selecting latches or locks, check their suitability for the door's construction; standard mortice latches are typically compatible with the timber framing within engineered doors, but always refer to hardware manufacturer guidance.

For the best results, professional installation by a qualified joiner or carpenter is recommended. They will ensure the door is hung correctly, operates smoothly, and that any necessary trimming (within manufacturer limits) is done properly. Always refer to any specific fitting instructions that may be supplied with the doors.

Frequently Asked Ladder Doors Questions

What's The Difference Between A Ladder Door And A Shaker Door?

While both ladder and Shaker doors are popular choices known for their clean lines, they possess distinct design characteristics. A Shaker door is traditionally defined by its 5-piece construction: two vertical side pieces (stiles) and two horizontal cross pieces (rails) form a frame around a central panel, which is typically flat or slightly recessed. This design originates from the Shaker community's principles of simplicity, functionality, and quality craftsmanship, resulting in a utilitarian yet elegant appearance. Variations exist, such as 3-panel or 5-panel Shaker doors, but the core concept of a framed panel remains.

In contrast, a ladder door's defining characteristic is its series of horizontal panels or grooves that evoke the image of ladder rungs. The emphasis is strongly on these horizontal elements, which often run across the full width of the door or are separated by minimal vertical divisions, unlike the prominent surrounding frame typical of Shaker doors.

Are Ladder Doors A Good Choice For Small Spaces or Apartments?

Yes, ladder doors are an excellent choice for small spaces or apartments. Their design, which doesn’t rely on intricate detailing, helps maintain a streamlined and open feel.

What Are Some Popular Design Trends That Pair Well With Ladder Doors?

Ladder doors pair well with several design trends, including industrial, Scandinavian, and mid-century modern. They also work beautifully in open-concept homes and minimalist spaces, where their clean lines and geometric patterns complement the simplicity of the surrounding decor. They can also be combined with raw materials like concrete or exposed brick for an edgy, urban look.
