Product Overview
Soft building sand supplied in a loose load format. This fine-grained natural sand consists primarily of silica particles typically ranging from 0-2mm in size, quarried and washed to produce a smooth, workable texture suitable for mortar and bricklaying applications.
It provides excellent plasticity, clean binding properties, and consistent moisture retention, making it ideal for use in general building works, masonry, rendering, and pointing. When mixed with cement and water, this sand aids in forming a smooth, durable mortar with strong adhesion and an even finish.
Supplied as a bulk loose load, it allows direct tipping for large-scale construction, masonry, or rendering projects where high-volume supply and efficiency are essential.
Features & Benefits
- Loose Load Format: Delivered directly to site for efficient offloading and immediate use on large construction or masonry projects.
- Smooth Workability: Fine, even grading provides an easy-to-trowel texture for precise bricklaying, pointing, and rendering.
- Strong Binding Properties: Combines effectively with cement to form a cohesive and durable mortar with long-lasting adhesion.
- Moisture Retention: Natural sand composition maintains consistent water balance for extended working time and reduced cracking.
- Uniform Quality: Washed and graded to produce a clean, contaminant-free material with predictable colour and texture.
Applications
- Bricklaying and Masonry Work: Used for producing mortar beds and joints with smooth, uniform finish.
- Rendering and Plastering: Suitable for exterior or interior wall coatings requiring fine, consistent texture.
- Pointing and Repointing: Provides strong, weather-resistant joints for brick, block, or stonework.
- General Building Works: Used across a range of structural and finishing applications requiring soft, workable sand.
- Mortar Production: Mixed with cement and water to create a high-quality mortar suitable for both load-bearing and finishing tasks.
Installation Guidance
- Site Preparation: Ensure clean, level working areas before mortar or sand placement.
- Mixing: Combine sand with cement and water in appropriate ratios to achieve desired mortar consistency.
- Application: Apply evenly between or across surfaces, maintaining consistent joint thickness.
- Workability Control: Adjust water content as needed to prevent stiff or overly wet mixes.
- Finishing: Smooth and tool joints as required before the mortar begins to set for optimal finish and durability.
Compliance & Performance
- Material Specification: Fine washed silica sand graded 0-2mm for mortar and plaster applications.
- Performance Standard: Conforms to BS EN 13139 for mortar sand and BS EN 998-2 for masonry mortar.
- Physical Properties: Fine, clean, and low in clay content to maintain strength, adhesion, and smooth workability.
- Important Note: Material is supplied loose and tipped on delivery; ensure suitable site access and a clear, level tipping area prior to arrival.
