Product Overview

Grano Dust with a 0mm to 4mm particle size and supplied in a loose load. This fine, crushed granite aggregate, often referred to as granite dust, is specifically engineered to provide a high-strength, durable bedding layer and finishing material for heavy-duty paving. The material is characterised by its sharp, angular grit which provides superior interlocking properties compared to standard sands, ensuring a stable surface that resists shifting under pressure.

It is primarily used as a final laying course for artificial grass, block paving, and concrete screeding where a firm, free-draining base is required. The fine grading allows for precision leveling while maintaining the structural integrity necessary for pedestrian and vehicular traffic areas. This product is supplied as a bulk loose load in a 1 tonne weight.

Features & Benefits

  • Sharp angular grit: Provides exceptional interlocking capabilities to create a more stable bedding layer than rounded sands.
  • High-strength composition: Utilises crushed granite to ensure a hard-wearing surface that withstands significant compression and heavy use.
  • Excellent drainage properties: Allows water to permeate through the sub-base, preventing surface pooling and improving the lifespan of the installation.
  • Precision levelling: Graded from 4mm down to dust to allow for a smooth, flat finish required for professional paving and turf projects.
  • Versatile bedding material: Suitable for use in a wide range of applications including floor screeds, granolithic paving, and artificial lawn bases.
  • Bulk loose format: Delivered without packaging to allow for direct tipping and immediate use on large-scale groundwork areas.
  • Tipping vehicle delivery: Supplied on a specialised lorry designed to offload the material by tipping directly onto the ground.

Applications

  • Flooring screeds and mortar mixes: Blends with sand and cement to create durable, level screeds with improved strength.
  • Driveways, paving, and paths: Compacts to provide a smooth, stable sub-base beneath slabs, blocks, or concrete.
  • Artificial grass installation: Used with MOT Type 1 to provide a stable, permeable base for synthetic turf.
  • Sports and industrial flooring: Suitable for fine concrete bases in garages, workshops, factories, and sports courts.
  • Hard standings and capping layers: Used to top sub-bases or form durable, flat surfaces for landscaping.
  • Soil improvement: Mixed into soil to improve moisture management and aid growing conditions.

Installation Guidance

  • Sub-base preparation: Ensure the primary sub-base, such as MOT Type 1, is fully compacted and level before applying the dust.
  • Layer distribution: Spread the material evenly across the target area to a typical depth of 20mm to 40mm for bedding applications.
  • Levelling and Screeding: Use a straight edge or screed rail to achieve a perfectly flat surface, accounting for a slight fall for drainage.
  • Compaction: Apply force using a mechanical vibrating plate compactor to consolidate the dust into a firm, non-shifting layer.
  • Final Inspection: Verify the surface is free of dips or protrusions before laying the final paving or artificial turf.

Compliance & Performance

  • Material specification: Crushed granite aggregate screened to a consistent 0-4mm grade for professional construction use.
  • Product standard: Produced to meet industry requirements for fine aggregates used in bedding and granolithic applications.
  • Delivery method: Supplied loose via a tipping lorry and discharged directly onto a clear, hard-standing area.
  • Non-returnable status: This product cannot be returned or refunded once it has been offloaded from the delivery vehicle.
  • Aesthetic variance: Product colour typically appears as a dark grey, though shades may vary based on the specific granite source.
  • Important note: Ensure the tipping area is clear of overhead cables and has sufficient space for a large HGV to manoeuvre safely.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
