Product Overview
All in ballast supplied in a loose load format. This material is a pre-mixed blend of sharp sand and graded gravel, engineered to produce strong, durable concrete when combined with cement and water.
The aggregate typically contains particles up to 20mm in size, providing an ideal balance of coarse and fine components for excellent binding strength and workability.
Used for foundations, footings, driveways, and general concrete works, it delivers consistent performance and a reliable structural base for domestic and commercial applications.
Supplied as a bulk loose load, it enables efficient tipping and distribution on site for large-scale concreting projects requiring high volume and uniform mix quality.
Features & Benefits
- Pre-Mixed Composition: Uniform blend of sharp sand and gravel for controlled concrete production with consistent strength.
- High Structural Performance: Designed to achieve durable, load-bearing concrete suitable for foundations and heavy-duty surfaces.
- Versatile Use: Suitable for general concreting, base filling, and footings in both domestic and commercial construction.
- Economical Supply: Reduces handling time and packaging waste, ideal for bulk concrete preparation.
- Bulk loose format: Delivered without packaging to allow for direct tipping and immediate use on large-scale groundwork areas.
- Tipping vehicle delivery: Supplied on a specialised lorry designed to offload the material by tipping directly onto the ground.
Applications
- Concrete Production: Mixed with cement and water to form general-purpose concrete for foundations and slabs.
- Footings and Bases: Used as the main aggregate base for walls, garages, and structural installations.
- Driveways and Hardstandings: Forms durable, stable concrete suitable for heavy-use surfaces.
- Filling and Backfilling Works: Provides strong, compactable fill for trench or void reinforcement.
- Commercial and Domestic Construction: Suitable for high-volume works requiring reliable aggregate quality and consistent grading.
Installation Guidance
- Site Preparation: Ensure a clean, level working area before mixing or placing the material.
- Mix Ratio: Combine with cement and water in a typical ratio of 1 part cement to 5 parts ballast, adjusting for required strength.
- Placement: Place the concrete mix evenly within formwork or designated area immediately after mixing.
- Compaction: Compact using suitable tools or vibrating equipment to eliminate air pockets and achieve full density.
- Curing: Protect freshly placed concrete from rapid drying to maintain strength and prevent cracking.
Compliance & Performance
- Material Specification: Blend of sharp sand and graded gravel conforming to BS EN 12620 for concrete aggregates.
- Aggregate Grading: Typically up to 20mm maximum particle size for balanced strength and workability.
- Performance Standard: Suitable for use in standard concrete mixes in accordance with BS 8500 and BS EN 206.
- Non-returnable status: This product cannot be returned or refunded once it has been offloaded from the delivery vehicle.
- Important note: Ensure the tipping area is clear of overhead cables and has sufficient space for a large HGV to manoeuvre safely.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
