Product Overview
Sharp sand supplied in a loose load format. This coarse-grained building sand consists of angular silica particles typically ranging from 0-4mm in size, quarried and washed for uniform texture and stability.
It provides high strength, free-draining performance, and strong interlock, making it ideal for use in concreting, paving, and screeding applications.
The sand’s coarse structure prevents excessive binding, ensuring effective compaction without trapping moisture. This makes it particularly suitable for mixing with cement to create robust concrete or mortar bases where load-bearing capacity and dimensional stability are required.
With its clean, granular finish, sharp sand performs equally well in structural and aesthetic applications such as bedding slabs, laying block paving, and forming stable screed layers.
Supplied in bulk loose load format, it enables direct on-site tipping for efficient handling, large-scale coverage, and reduced packaging waste.
Features & Benefits
- Loose Load Format: Delivered in bulk for efficient placement, reduced packaging, and simplified handling on construction sites.
- High Strength Composition: Coarse-grained particles deliver strong interlock and excellent load-bearing stability in structural applications.
- Free-Draining Texture: Open particle structure allows water to pass freely, reducing risk of pooling or waterlogging beneath paving or concrete layers.
- Versatile Use: Suitable for mixing concrete, bedding slabs, laying block paving, and forming stable screed bases.
- Consistent Quality: Washed and graded to ensure uniform grain size and reliable performance across all applications.
Applications
- Concrete Production: Used as a key aggregate component for strong, stable concrete mixes in structural works.
- Paving and Slab Bedding: Provides a firm, even bedding layer beneath block paving or flagstones.
- Floor Screeding: Forms the base material for smooth, stable screeds in flooring construction.
- Drainage Layers: Serves as a free-draining sub-base beneath paved or hardstanding areas.
- General Construction Use: Suitable for civil, domestic, or landscaping applications requiring coarse, stable sand with structural strength.
Installation Guidance
- Site Preparation: Ensure the area is level, stable, and free from debris before placement.
- Placement: Tip directly from vehicle or distribute mechanically to achieve even coverage.
- Mixing: Combine with cement and aggregate in appropriate ratios when preparing concrete or mortar.
- Layer Control: Spread evenly to specified depth to achieve correct compaction and finish.
- Inspection: Confirm uniform grain distribution and moisture content before overlying materials or structural layers.
Compliance & Performance
- Material Specification: Coarse washed silica sand graded 0-4mm for concreting and paving applications.
- Performance Standard: Conforms to BS EN 13139 for mortar sand and BS EN 12620 for concrete aggregate.
- Physical Properties: Angular, non-reactive, and low in clay content to maintain high strength and free drainage.
- Important Note: Material is supplied loose and tipped on delivery; ensure adequate site access and a clear, level tipping area prior to arrival.
