Find Out More About Our Types of EcoTherm Insulation BoardWhat is EcoTherm Insulation?
EcoTherm is one of the leading manufacturers of premium quality PIR insulation boards. It manufactures a range of boards that are designed for specific purposes; EcoTherm Eco-Versal, Eco-Torch, and Eco-Cavity boards are tailor-made for different insulation needs.
No matter which EcoTherm product you choose, you can expect a fibre-free rigid polyisocyanurate PIR board with a low lambda value. Most EcoTherm boards have a lambda value of 0.022 W/mK, meaning that they’re highly thermally efficient.
EcoTherm Eco-Versal Insulation
The most popular of EcoTherm’s insulation boards is the EcoTherm Eco-Versal range. These PIR thermal insulation board products take their name from their versatility (Eco-“Versal”) and are ideal for general-purpose applications.
Each EcoTherm Eco-Versal board is comprised of EcoTherm’s characteristic PIR insulation sandwiched between two aluminium foil facings on both sides. Eco-Versal lives up to the 'Eco' in its name as it is manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
They are ideal for people who are looking for reliable EcoTherm roof insulation boards. Eco-Versal boards can be fixed to pitched roofs in a few different ways: between and under rafters and between and above rafters. They can also be laid over screed on a damp proof membrane (DPM) to act as floor insulation.
These boards have a low moisture absorption capacity, which means that you will still benefit from all the thermal properties. You can use Eco-Versal insulation for pitched roofs, floors, walls, dormer cheeks, and ceilings.
Our customers can choose from a range of thicknesses between 25mm and 150mm.
EcoTherm Eco-Cavity Wall Insulation
EcoTherm cavity wall insulation is purpose-built for people who want an extra layer of protection against the elements. They are designed to be installed in blockwork cavity walls and come in both partial fill and full fill variations
Eco-Cavity wall insulation boards are made from a polyisocyanurate PIR insulation core with foil facings on either side. They are cut into 1200mm x 450mm boards, which means that are engineered to accommodate brick and block dimensions. You can install Eco-Cavity boards with wall ties or simple clipping methods.
Eco-Cavity boards will not rot, sag, or decay and provide reliable protection against rain. People who live in coastal or high-rainfall areas use Eco-Cavity insulation to shield their properties. We recommend these products for thinner constructs that still need high-performance thermal insulation.
EcoTherm Eco-Torch Insulation
Eco-Torch insulation is an efficient EcoTherm roof insulation. Eco-Torch is a flat roof insulation for hot-applied roofing systems and adhered single-ply systems. These boards are made from fibre-free, rigid PIR insulation that is faced with coated glass tissue on one side and bituminised glass tissue with polypropylene fleece on the other.
It's important to note that different thicknesses have different thermal conductivity. EcoTherm Eco-Torch roof insulation that is under 80mm in thickness has 0.027 W/mK thermal conductivity. Boards that are between 80mm and 110mm thick have 0.025 W/mK conductivity, and boards that are over 110mm thick have 0.024 W/mK conductivity.
EcoTherm Insulation Thickness
We stock EcoTherm Eco-Versal, Eco-Cavity and Eco-Torch products. Our customers can purchase these products in a range of thicknesses between 25mms and 150mm. Different thicknesses are better for different purposes. The thicker the insulation, the lower the thermal value of the buildup.
Follow this EcoTherm thickness guide for EcoTherm’s Eco-Versal products for general applications.
● 25mm - 40mm boards can overcome localised thermal bridging
● 50mm - 100mm boards are general purpose and can be used as floor, wall, or roof insulation
● 110mm - 150mm boards are ideal for cut-to-fit applications between rafters or joists, floors, and flat roofs

EcoTherm Installation Essentials
- Avoid installing fixings within a 50mm perimeter of the board when using mechanical fixing methods.
- All flat roofs require a vapour control layer. Follow the guidelines outlined in BS 6229:2003.
- To ensure a secure and tight fit, stagger the placement of the boards and tape the joints as specified.
- Determine the appropriate number of fixings required for your project by referring to BS 6399-2:1997 or Euro Code 1:EN1991-1-4.
For a thorough step-by-step installation guide and other tips and tricks, please refer to our Celotex Installation Guide. While this guide specifies Celotex solely, it's important to note that Ecotherm and Celotex are essentially the same product and will give the same U-values for a given thickness.
Frequently Asked EcoTherm Insulation Board Questions
What Are the Benefits of EcoTherm Insulation Boards?
EcoTherm insulation reviews always discuss the benefits of polyisocyanurate (PIR). PIR is one of the most efficient insulation materials on the market. PIR insulation is so efficient that half the thickness of a PIR board is equivalent to one standard insulation board in a less thermally efficient material.
EcoTherm boards are made from fibre-free rigid polyisocyanurate PIR insulation core, which makes them durable with a lambda value of 0.022 W/mK.
They can be used in new build projects or for upgrading the thermal performance of existing builds, providing a cost-effective means of reducing co2 emissions to maintain compliance with building regulations standards.
One of the main benefits of EcoTherm is that different boards are tailor-made for different insulation needs. We stock the three most popular EcoTherm products: Eco-Versal (2400mm x 1200mm), Eco-Cavity (450mm x 1200mm) and Eco-Torch (1200mm x 600mm). There is a board for every kind of home improvement project in our range.
Is EcoTherm Insulation Sustainable?
EcoTherm is devoted to being eco-friendly and curbing energy consumption. Their products make for one of the best solutions in mitigating heat loss from buildings and promote a 'fabric first' approach to construction.
Ecotherm insulation boards are constructed with rigid polyisocyanurate foam (PIR). This highly efficient insulating material can help to minimise the energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions that come with cooling and heating buildings.
Despite its impressive insulation properties, PIR is not the most sustainable option due to the fact that it is produced from non-renewable fossil fuels and is difficult to recycle or biodegrade.
That being said, EcoTherm insulation boards are designed to last for the lifetime of a building, which can help reduce the need for future energy-intensive renovations or replacements. Moreover, EcoTherm insulation boards can help improve the energy efficiency of buildings, which can contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over the long term.
Overall, while EcoTherm insulation boards may not be considered sustainable in the strictest sense, they can still play an important role in improving the energy efficiency of buildings and reducing their environmental impact.
What Are EcoTherm Insulation Data Sheets?
EcoTherm insulation data sheets provide customers with important information about each product. Manufacturers write data sheets to give potential customers an in-depth look into the characteristics and uses of their products.
You can find technical information about thermal conductivity, thickness, and dimensions on data sheets.
EcoTherm data sheets are listed under the ‘Technical Downloads’ section on each product page.
Are EcoTherm Insulation Boards Combustible?
The Euroclass scale measures the combustibility of construction materials. Classifications are written in letters and numbers. The best grade is A1, which means that the material is non-combustible. The lowest rating that a material can be awarded is F. Materials that are graded F are combustible.
Materials undergo up to five different tests to gain a classification. There are additional tests for smoke production. Products that achieve an S1 classification produce little or no smoke, whereas products that gain an S3 grade will produce substantial smoke.
EcoTherm Eco-Versal, Eco-Torch, and Eco-Cavity insulation boards have a Euroclass rating of F. We recommend placing additional layers of fireproofing material on top of EcoTherm roof insulation to improve the fire-retardant properties of the buildup.
You can put reinforcement layers, carrier membranes, and waterproof materials on the top of EcoTherm boards. You should always consult an expert when deciding on products intended to provide fire protection.
Is EcoTherm Insulation Water Resistant?
EcoTherm roof insulation is not water-resistant. We recommend using additional materials to protect EcoTherm cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, and floor insulation from moisture.
People who want to use EcoTherm products to insulate their floor should use a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) to prevent water damage. Products that are laid against a concrete slab should be overlaid with a protective membrane. The membrane should have a minimum of 500 gauge.
