Do I need a vapour barrier with Celotex?

The requirement for a Vapour Control Layer depends on the area you are insulating to prevent moisture from reaching cold surfaces. Roofs: Generally required for "Cold Roofs" (insulation between rafters) to protect timber. It is often not required for "Warm Roofs" where insulation is above the deck, provided the joints are foil-taped. Walls: Almost always required in timber or metal stud walls. The VCL prevents warm, humid indoor air from condensing against the cold outer structure. Floors: Usually not required as a separate layer if the Celotex is laid over a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) and the joints are taped, as the DPM stops ground moisture. In all cases, ensure you use aluminium foil tape on all board joins. Always consult a Building Control officer to confirm your specific design meets current thermal and moisture regulations.

What U-value does 100mm Celotex achieve?

On its own, the board has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, which is highly efficient for its thickness. The total U-value depends on the entire build-up (including brick, air gaps, and plasterboard) rather than just the insulation alone. For a professional calculation on an application you must use a SAP assessor or architect to perform a formal U-value calculation.
