Please Note:

  • The finished size of our timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. Nom - 47mm x 150mm/Fin - 45mm x 145mm.
  • Timber may be supplied with engineered finger-joints. Engineered timber has a glue line that is stronger than the timber itself; it also has all defects and knots removed. This makes engineered timber 60% stronger than its solid timber alternatives.
  • The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

What Is 6x2 Timber 6m?

6x2 treated timber, also known as 150x50 carcassing timber has established itself as a cornerstone in the building trade, owing to its suitability for a wide range of applications, from structural frameworks to outdoor projects. Its appeal lies not only in its size and strength but also in the rigorous treatment and preparation processes it undergoes to ensure maximum performance and longevity.

The production of 6x2 treated timber involves both treatment and kiln-drying processes. These steps are crucial in enhancing the timber's resilience to external factors that could otherwise degrade its quality over time. Through treatment, the timber is fortified against moisture, ensuring that it does not warp, rot, or weaken when exposed to damp environments. Additionally, the treatment protects the wood from insect damage, making it an excellent choice for construction projects that demand long-term durability.

In terms of grading, our 6x2 treated timber boasts a C24 rating, which is superior to the more common C16 grade. This distinction signifies enhanced strength and durability, particularly in load-bearing applications. 6x2 Timber 6m is ideal for structural purposes, such as carcassing, where the wood forms the essential framework of a building. It is particularly well-suited for use as joists in roofing and flooring, where stability and strength are paramount.

Beyond its structural applications, 6x2 treated timber is also a popular choice for outdoor projects. It is frequently used in the construction of decking, pergolas, and other outdoor structures. Its treated and kiln-dried properties allow it to withstand prolonged exposure to the elements, ensuring that it maintains its strength and integrity over time.

Here at Materials Market, we sell treated timber in a variety of sizes and lengths. Our high-quality C24 grade treated timber comes in 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 6m and 7.2m, with a consistent thickness of 47mm.

6x2 Timber Sizing Explained

With a nominal size of 47mmx150mm, 6x2 timber actually has a finished size of 45mmx145mm, but this difference is so negligible that it is commonly just referred to as 47x150, or 6 x 2.
