Please Note:

  • Timber may be supplied with engineered finger-joints. Engineered timber has a glue line that is stronger than the timber itself; it also has all defects and knots removed. This makes engineered timber 60% stronger than its solid timber alternatives.
  • The finished size of our timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

What Is 4x2 Timber 6m?

47mm x 100mm Sawn Treated Timber C16/C24 (4" x 2") - 6m is a durable, high-grade timber, pressure-treated for long-lasting performance in structural and general construction applications.

Available in C16 and C24 grades, it offers varying levels of strength to suit different load-bearing requirements.

C24 is a higher-grade timber, suitable for demanding applications such as roof trusses and heavy structural framing. C16 is commonly specified for residential builds and general structural tasks such as floor joists, stud walls, and standard framing, where loads are moderate.

Both grades are pressure-treated with Tanalith 'E', a trusted wood preservative that helps protect against rot, decay, and insect damage. This treatment extends the timber’s lifespan, making it a reliable choice for both indoor and outdoor use, even in high-moisture or harsh weather environments.

We supply good quality 50x100 timber in various lengths: 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m and 5.4m, all of which are sold in a consistent thickness of 47mm.

Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

What’s the Difference Between C16 & C24?

  • C16 timber is the most commonly used structural timber in the UK. It’s strong enough for standard domestic applications such as floor joists, wall studs, and general carcassing.
  • C24 timber is a higher-grade option. It’s denser, stronger, and contains fewer knots - making it ideal for load-bearing applications like roof trusses, balconies, and heavily loaded joists. C24 is often the go-to for professional builds and where Building Control specifies higher structural performance.

Applications

C16 and C24 timber will deliver well in most construction projects. We recommend using the stronger, more dependable C24 timber grade for larger-scale projects (or in applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges).

Generally, 47x100 treated timber can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications such as:

  • Flooring
  • Roofing - rafters/joists in a loft floor
  • Walling
  • Decking joists
  • Carcassing timber in floor joists
  • Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

Sizing Information

  • Nominal Size: 47mm x 100mm (4" x 2")
  • Finished Size: The actual dimensions will be slightly smaller, with a thickness of approximately 2mm less and a width of around 5mm less than the nominal size.

Please note that the colour and finish of the timber may vary slightly due to its natural characteristics. This minor variation is typical and does not affect the timber's performance or suitability for your project.
