What Is 4x2 Timber 3.6m?
Sawn Treated Timber (4x2) 3.6m is a premium treated timber available in both C16/C24 grades. The pressure treatment applied to this timber is what makes it so great at keeping wood rot at bay in damp and humid environments (please note, that whilst treated timber does a grand job of holding up in moist climates, it is not waterproof).
What's more, the treatment also prevents bothersome burrowers from wreaking havoc on your build's structural integrity. We supply good quality 50x100 timber in various lengths: 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m and 6m, all of which are sold in a consistent thickness of 47mm.
Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.
4x2 3.6 m C16/C24 Applications
Despite their difference in quality, both C16 and C24 timber will deliver well in most construction projects; while C16 wood is somewhat less durable than C24, it is still sturdy and resilient, making it suitable for strength and load-bearing.
We recommend using the stronger, more dependable C24 timber grade for larger-scale projects (or in applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges).
Thanks to the protective treatment of the timber, 47x100 treated timber can be used in many different indoor and outdoor applications such as:
- Flooring
- Roofing - rafters/joists in a loft floor
- Walling
- Decking joists
- Carcassing timber in floor joists
- Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

What Does C16/C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?
C24 grade is superior to C16, offering greater strength with more knots and fewer defects. This suits it to tasks which require durability and sturdiness, namely structural applications, such as floor joists or roof battens.
C24 timber is a premium choice that can support higher loads and wider spans. Only good quality timber imported from areas where the weather conditions demand a slower growth rate (and hence a tighter grain) achieves a C24 grade.
Provided it is pressure-treated, C16 timber can be used externally in an outer structure of a building, as well as in decking. C16 graded timber is sturdy enough for most tasks and will satisfy performance requirements at a lower cost than C24 timber.
Pressure Treated Timber Benefits
There are several different types of timber available on the market, including treated wood, untreated wood, and sawn carcassing timber.
Timber is generally in areas that are difficult to access, so using high-quality treated wood for your construction projects is critical.
We usually have no method of determining whether the structure is being attacked by insects or weakened by damp so it's in your best interest to invest in a timber that will hold its own.
Let's get into the details of treated timber's many other benefits:
- It is treated to resist rot, decay and insect attacks
- The most durable timber option, making it ideal for outdoor use
- Thanks to its treated nature, treated timber is also low-maintenance
- You won't have to spend time and money regularly maintaining it
