What Is 4x2 Timber 3.6m?

Sawn Treated Timber (4x2) 3.6m is a high-quality, pressure-treated timber product designed for a wide range of construction and structural applications.

Available in C16 and C24 grades, this timber offers varying levels of strength to suit different load-bearing requirements. C24 is a higher-grade timber suitable for demanding applications such as roof trusses and heavy structural framing, while C16 is ideal for lighter framing and non-load-bearing elements.

Both grades of timber are treated with Tanalith 'E', a high-performance wood preservative that provides exceptional resistance to rot, decay, and insect attack. This treatment makes the timber highly durable and well-suited for use in both internal and external environments, especially in areas prone to moisture or fluctuating weather conditions.

We supply quality 50x100 timber in various lengths: 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m and 6m, all of which are sold in a consistent thickness of 47mm.

Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

Where is 4x2 3.6 m C16/C24 Used?

Despite their difference in quality, both C16 and C24 timber will deliver well in most construction projects. We recommend using the stronger, more dependable C24 timber grade for larger-scale projects (or in applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges).

47x100 treated timber can be used in many different indoor and outdoor applications such as:

  • Flooring
  • Roofing - rafters/joists in a loft floor
  • Walling
  • Decking joists
  • Carcassing timber in floor joists
  • Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

Sawn Treated Timber C16/C24 (4" x 2") 3.6m Benefits

  • Tanalised timber pressure treated with Tanalith 'E' to prevent rot
  • Kiln dried to improve stability and straightness
  • Strength graded to C16/C24 for known structural performance
  • Width: 100mm
  • More length options may be available on request

What Does C16/C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?

C24 grade timber offers superior strength compared to C16, with fewer defects and a denser grain, making it ideal for structural applications that require durability and robustness. It is particularly well-suited for floor joists, roof battens, and other tasks where it can support higher loads and span wider distances.

While C16 timber is not as strong as C24, it is still a reliable option for many construction projects. When pressure-treated, C16 timber can be used for external applications such as building frameworks and decking. It provides a more cost-effective solution than C24, offering adequate strength for general construction needs without compromising performance.
