Product Overview

C24 strength-graded structural softwood, kiln-dried, regularised, and treated for use where maximum span capacity, strength, and stability are required in structural floors, roofs, and beams.

250mm width in a 3.6m length provides maximum support for heavy-duty floors and decking, reducing bounce and deflection in medium spans.

Features & Benefits

  • Strength grading (C24): Higher density and stiffness than C16, suitable for demanding load-bearing roles.
  • Factory applied preservative treatment: Protects timber in typical above-ground conditions when installed properly.
  • Kiln-dried & regularised: Helps control shrinkage and ensures even sizing for accurate work.
  • Eased edges: Safer handling and a cleaner finish with reduced splinter risk.
  • Sawn face texture: Provides a stable key for membranes, adhesives, and coatings.
  • Easy to work: Accepts nails, screws, bolts, and hangers.
  • Length - 3.6m: Reliable size for medium-span joists and rafters.
  • 250mm width: Deepest standard section, delivering maximum load capacity and span performance.
  • Section size - 47mm x 250mm (10" x 2"): Largest standard carcassing size for strength-critical applications.

Applications

  • Floor joists and trimmers: Provides ultimate stiffness and load capacity for the largest spans and most demanding structural floors.
  • Stud walls and plates: Forms robust frameworks in heavy-duty load-bearing walls.
  • Roof members: Suitable for rafters, purlins, and ceiling joists in large or load-heavy roofs.

Installation Guidance

  • Respect span limits: Only use within the limits of the specified grade.
  • Use compatible fixings and hangers: Exterior-rated and suitable for treated timber.
  • End-grain protection: Seal all cut ends and notches with a suitable end-grain preservative product to maintain treatment integrity.

Compliance & Performance

  • Strength grading: C24 to BS EN 14081 / EN 338.
  • Service conditions: Suitable for dry internal or covered external use (above ground).
  • Preservative treatment (Tanalith ‘E’): Pressure treatment provides resistance against fungal decay and insect attac
  • Dimensional tolerance: Finished sizes typically arrive slightly under nominal, often around 2mm less in thickness and 5mm less in width.
  • Natural variation: Colour and surface appearance vary naturally and by treatment batch.
  • Moisture disclaimer: Treated Timber is often stored outside and if it has recently been raining then the timber may arrive wet; this does not affect the integrity of the timber.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
