What Is 8x2 Timber 3.6m?

8x2 Timber 3.6m is a kiln-dried treated structural graded softwood commonly utilised where a grading stamp is needed. Engineered for use in structurally demanding applications, it is often specified for floor joists, roof rafters, and critical elements within timber frame constructions where load-bearing capacity is paramount.

The combination of its C24 strength grade, protective treatment, and kiln-dried stability ensures reliable performance under calculated structural loads and provides an extended service life compared to lower-grade or untreated alternatives.

We offer a selection of 8x2 C24 timber lengths cut to 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 5.4m, 6m and 7.2m. Longer lengths and other timber sizes are also available for purchase by enquiry.

Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

Applications

8x2 Timber 3.6m can be utilised in a variety of ways both internally and externally in:

  • Stud walls
  • Joists for roofs, floors and decking
  • Structural and general joinery applications
  • Timber framing construction

Benefits

  • Structural Integrity: C24 grade guarantees high characteristic strength and stiffness values. This makes the timber reliable for demanding load-bearing roles such as floor joists, roof rafters, and structural framework.
  • Enhanced Durability & Extended Longevity: Preservative treatment provides robust, long-term protection against fungal decay (rot) and insect attack. This significantly extends the timber's service life, particularly in external applications or environments prone to dampness, offering a distinct advantage over untreated or inadequately treated timber.
  • Excellent Dimensional Stability: Kiln drying prior to treatment reduces timber's internal moisture content. This minimises the potential for warping, twisting, shrinking, or splitting after installation, ensuring the timber remains dimensionally stable and maintains structural integrity.
  • Ease of Handling & Installation: The regularised (planed) finish and eased (rounded) edges make the timber safer, smoother, and more comfortable to handle, reducing the risk of splinters. The consistent dimensions also facilitate easier and potentially faster assembly on site.
  • Versatility in Application: Combination of strength, durability, and stability suits 8x2 C24 treated timber to a wide array of structural uses, both internally and externally.

C24 Structural Grading Explained

The C24 designation refers to a specific strength grade for coniferous softwood timber, as defined by the European standard BS EN 338 and marked in accordance with BS EN 14081. It is a higher grade than the more commonly specified C16 timber.

Timber graded as C24 boasts superior characteristic values for essential structural properties, such as bending strength, stiffness (measured by Modulus of Elasticity), and density. This enhanced strength allows C24 timber sections to support greater loads and span longer distances compared to C16 timber of the same dimensions.
