What Is 8x2 Timber 3.6m?
Make every build last with this high-quality 3.6m C24 graded 8x2 treated timber. Often referred to as 200x50 timber, this 3.6m 8x2 timber has been sawn to length and pressure treated with chemicals to prevent both fungal and insect attack.
As carcassing timber, these lengths boast a C24 grading, making them suitable for structural applications such as flooring joists, roofing, as well as timber frame stud walls and other general joinery applications.
What's more, they have been planed all round to produce a smooth easi edge that allows for comfortable handling. Environmentalists can also rest assured thanks to the timber's FSC or PEFC certification - all of our timber is responsibly sourced from environmentally sustainable suppliers.
We offer a selection of 8x2 C24 timber lengths cut to 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 5.4m, 6m and 7.2m. Longer lengths and other timber sizes are also available for purchase by enquiry.
Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.
8x2 Treated Timber 3.6m Applications
Carcassing timber is a kiln-dried treated structural graded softwood that is most often seen in construction where a grading stamp is needed. It can be utilised in a variety of ways both internally and externally, and it's widely used in floor joists, roof joists, and timber framing construction.
No matter the application, it's relatively easy to cut treated timber to the size that you need in your project, though this should only be attempted with the appropriate power tools, eye protection and a respirator.
Carcassing timber is generally used in the following building applications:
- Stud walls
- Joists for roofs, floors and decking
- Structural and general joinery applications
- Timber framing construction
8x2 Treated Timber 3.6m Specifications
Pressure-treated timber, otherwise known as tanalised timber (due to the Tanalith E wood preservative that impregnates the wood) provides many benefits, such as resistance to moisture, meaning weather (even UK weather, unbelievably) will not affect its structural integrity.
Let's check the specifications:
- Graded to a superior C24 standard - excellent tensile strength
- Regularised with an eased edge
- Pressure treated with Tanalith 'E' to prevent rot and protect from direct contact with moisture
- Kiln dried for extra stability and straightness
- FSC Certified - responsibly sourced
- High-density
- Cost-effective - competitive price with quality guarantee
What Does C24 Carcassing Timber Mean?
C24 grade is superior to C16, offering greater strength with more knots than lower graded timbers. This suits it to tasks which require durability and sturdiness, namely structural applications, such as floor joists or roof battens.
C24 timber is a premium choice that can support higher loads and wider spans. Only good quality timber imported from areas where the weather conditions demand a slower growth rate (and hence a tighter grain) achieves a C24 grade.
Timber Sizing Explained
Here at Materials Market, all of the timber we sell is treated with preservatives, kiln dried, and then planed on all four sides to give it an easi edge profile that makes for easy handling. Our 8 x 2 timber offers longer lengths of up to 7.2m.
Timber sizes are often referred to as either nominal or finished. With a nominal size of 47mmx200mm, this product actually has a finished size of 45mmx195mm but this difference is so negligible that it is commonly just referred to as 200 x 47mm, 47x200, or 8x2.
Should it be of interest, we have a ton of details and other information on timber on our website; check out our Timber category page or simply refer to our 8x2 category page.
