About 2x2 3m

Our 2x2 3m timber is pressure-treated to withstand common issues such as insect damage and fungal decay, making it suitable for non-structural use in both indoor and outdoor applications.

It is commonly used for modest carpentry tasks where no load-bearing is required, such as assembling basic frameworks or creating low-level garden installations like planters, trellises, and edging. Indoors, it’s just as handy for shelving, trim work, and smaller DIY builds where a sturdy yet compact timber solution is required.

Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

Applications

Important Note on Usage: This 2x2 timber is primarily intended for non-structural or light-duty applications.

  • As part of a building structure's timber frame
  • Outdoor decking, frames and pergolas
  • Fencing
  • Garden sheds/furniture

Benefits

  • Tanalised timber pressure treated with Tanalith 'E' to prevent rot
  • Kiln dried to improve stability and straightness
  • Regularised with an eased edge
  • Suitable for non-structural use in both indoor and outdoor builds
  • Versatile option for a range of DIY or construction tasks

How to Use 2x2 3m Timber: Tips & Techniques

Whether you're working on a small DIY project or a larger construction task, following the right techniques ensures the 2x2 3m timber delivers optimal performance. Below are some helpful tips for cutting, treating, and working with this versatile timber:

Cutting and Measuring

  • Measure Twice, Cut Once: Always measure your timber carefully before making any cuts. Double-check your measurements to avoid wasting material. If you're cutting multiple pieces, use a saw guide to ensure consistent cuts.
  • Use the Right Saw: When cutting 2x2 timber, use a fine-tooth saw to achieve smooth edges. A circular saw is ideal for straight cuts, but for more intricate work, a jigsaw or handsaw might be better for smaller or more detailed cuts.
  • Pre-Drill Holes: To avoid splitting the timber, always pre-drill pilot holes for screws, especially when working near the edges. This will help preserve the integrity of the timber and create a cleaner finish.

Preparing the Timber for Use

  • Sanding the Edges: After cutting the timber, it's a good idea to sand the edges lightly. This will not only improve the appearance but also make the timber safer to handle, especially when building with it.
  • Seal the Cut Ends: The ends of your timber are particularly vulnerable to moisture absorption. Use a timber end sealant or a water-repellent treatment on any exposed cut edges to help prevent moisture from entering and causing damage.

Treating the Timber for Longevity

  • Sealing for Outdoor Use: Although the timber is pressure-treated, adding an extra layer of protection is always beneficial, especially if you are using it in high-moisture environments. Consider applying a wood preservative or outdoor wood sealer to maintain its durability.
  • Staining or Painting: If you're using the timber for aesthetic purposes (such as for garden furniture), applying a wood stain or paint can help protect it while enhancing its look. Choose products that are designed for pressure-treated timber and outdoor use.
  • Reapply Protection Regularly: Even pressure-treated timber requires maintenance. Every few years, check for signs of wear, and reapply a protective finish to keep the timber in top shape, particularly if it's exposed to the elements.
