What Is 6x2 Timber 2.4m?

The United Kingdom's quintessential grey skies and frequent rainfall are as much a part of its allure as the inherent moisture and insect resistance are to our 2.4m 6x2 treated timber.

Expertly treated and kiln-dried, this sawn timber is meticulously prepared to offer paramount protection against the persistent dampness of the UK climate and the pervasive threat of insect infestation.

Furthermore, our 6x2 timber lengths, each measuring 2.4 meters, have undergone a thorough planing process to create a smooth, easi edge finish. This careful refinement ensures that the timber is not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable and safe to handle, enhancing the overall workability of the material in a variety of construction contexts.

Boasting a robust C24 grading, they are suitable for structural applications such as flooring, roofing, as well as timber framing and other general joinery applications.

Here at Materials Market, we sell a huge range of treated timber in a variety of sizes and lengths. Our high-quality C24 grade treated timber comes in 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.2m, 4.8m, 6m and 7.2m, with a consistent thickness of 47mm.

Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

6x2 Timber Sizing Explained

With a nominal size of 47mmx150mm, 6x2 timber actually has a finished size of 45mmx145mm, but this difference is so negligible that it is commonly just referred to as 47x150, or 6x2.

Where Is 47mm x 150mm Sawn Treated Timber C24 (6" x 2") 2.4m Used?

6 x 2 treated timber, often called 150x50 carcassing timber, is a mainstay of the building trade.

C24 timber is the superior cousin of C16. Offering superior strength and durability, 47x150 treated timber is especially suited to carcassing, often being utilised as joists in roofing or flooring.

C24 timber is fine to use in external applications as long as it has been treated. Treated wood can endure the elements and is therefore ideal for decking, external buildings, and other applications.

Some other examples of how 6 x 2 timber lengths can be used are:

  • Flooring
  • Stud walls
  • Roofing - rafters/joists in a loft floor
  • Walling
  • Decking joists - as it is able to bear heavier loads than ungraded timber (or that which is graded to a lower level such as C16.)
  • Carcassing timber in floor joists
  • Garden furniture and other outdoor projects

What is C24 Timber?

The term "C24 grade" is used to describe a higher timber quality than that of C16. C24 timber is a premium choice that can support higher loads and wider spans.

Only timber imported from areas where the weather conditions demand a slower growth rate (and hence a tighter grain) achieves a C24 grade.
