What Is 5x2 Timber 2.4m?
47mm x 125mm Sawn Treated Timber C16/C24 (5" x 2") 2.4m is a high-quality, pressure-treated timber product designed for a wide range of construction and structural applications.
Available in C16 and C24 grades, this timber offers varying levels of strength to suit different load-bearing requirements. C24 is a higher-grade timber, suitable for demanding applications such as roof trusses and heavy structural framing. C16 is commonly specified for residential builds and general structural tasks such as floor joists, stud walls, and standard framing, where loads are moderate.
Both grades of timber are treated with Tanalith 'E', a high-performance wood preservative that provides exceptional resistance to rot, decay, and insect attack. This treatment makes the timber highly durable and well-suited for use in both internal and external environments, especially in areas prone to moisture or fluctuating weather conditions.
We sell 47x125 timber in various lengths of 2.4m, 3m, 3.6m, 4.8m and 6m - all of which can be cut or sawn to length.
Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.
What’s the Difference Between C16 & C24?
- C16 timber is the most commonly used structural timber in the UK. It’s strong enough for standard domestic applications such as floor joists, wall studs, and general carcassing.
- C24 timber is a higher-grade option. It’s denser, stronger, and contains fewer knots - making it ideal for load-bearing applications like roof trusses, balconies, and heavily loaded joists. C24 is often the go-to for professional builds and where Building Control specifies higher structural performance.
Applications
Despite their difference in quality, both C16 and C24 timber will deliver well in most construction projects. We recommend using the stronger, more dependable C24 timber grade for larger-scale projects (or in applications where strength is critical, such as balconies, terraces, and bridges).
47x125 treated timber can be used in many different indoor and outdoor applications such as:
- Flooring
- Roofing - rafters/joists in a loft floor
- Walling
- Decking joists
- Carcassing timber in floor joists
- Garden furniture and other outdoor projects
