25mm Marine Plywood is so good at resisting water that you won't be able to resist buying it. It should come as no surprise (what with its name) that this robust structural sheet is the most popular choice for boat building industries. Designed to stand strong in the face of harsh weather conditions, Marine Plywood is the creme de la creme of water-resistant load-bearing sheet materials and is suitable not only for boatbuilding but a wide range of construction applications where strength and stability are key (such as flooring, roofing and wall applications). Unlike regular plywood, Marine Plywood is made with waterproof glue and is much less likely to swell or delaminate when exposed to moisture.
25mm Marine Grade Plywood Applications
Where rigidity and moisture resistance matter most, use 25mm Marine Plywood. Marine Plywood 25mm is well-suited to an extensive range of interior applications and exterior applications such as flooring, roofing, wall and external joinery. Thanks to its highly moisture-resistant core, this highly durable structured board is fit for structural use in an extensive range of demanding environments where standard woods would be prone to warping and deformation.
This exceptional product conforms to BS1088 (the British standard specification for Marine Plywood) which assures that it is manufactured from durable Meranti hardwood veneers.
We recommend using the boards in applications where a durable material is required, such as:
- Shopfitting
- Storage boxes
- Advertising panels
- Bathrooms
- Sheds
- Walkways
- Kitchens
- Patios
- Temporary structures
- Indoor vehicle storage areas
- Roof supports
- Cold frames
If used for an aesthetic application such as shelving, we suggest sanding and adding a layer of varnish to enhance its overall appearance.
25mm Marine Plywood 2440mm x 1220mm Key Features:
Offering many benefits as both an interior and exterior plywood board, 25mm Marine Grade Plywood owes its strength to the highly durable species of timber used in its manufacturing process and its high moisture-resistant core. This structural makeup is what makes Marine Plywood so heavily used by marine and boat industries, as it boasts unrivalled weatherproof quality and performance in wet conditions over extended periods.
Whilst naturally resistant to moisture, it should be noted that the boards are not pressure treated so they are not rot-resistant. You can easily increase service life of Marine Plywood by sealing both the edges and faces of the sheets.
Let's take a look at the specs below:
- Moisture resistant - retains its integrity when in contact with water
- Designed to resist fungal attacks
- Suitable for both interior and exterior applications
- Holds laminate, paint and polish well
- Pliable design - can bend without cracking or comprising structural integrity
- Offers superior impact resistance
- Lack of voids and holes makes the product more structurally sound
Marine Plywood is made from solid veneer wood, meaning the finished surface gives a wooden appearance. Therefore, images may vary slightly from delivered products due to the natural variation in colour and grain.
25mm Marine Grade Plywood Size
Marine Plywood 25mm comes in a 2440mm x 1220mm x 25mm sheet, giving a square metre size of roughly 2.98m2.
25mm Marine Grade Plywood Manufacturing Process
Where standard plywood sheets are generally made up of layers of softwood and hardwood, Marine Ply is manufactured using many layers of water-resistant tropical hardwood that are bonded together with waterproof glue.
Unlike standard plywood, Marine Plywood is free of air pockets and core voids, reducing the likelihood of water getting trapped between the layers. If you were to slice through a sheet of regular plywood, you'd be able to spot holes and voids within the layers. In avoiding these holes, Marine Plywood boasts greater structural integrity and rot-resistant qualities, making it suitable for demanding requirements where the board is likely to be exposed to the elements.
Both the quality and lay-up of the sheet's veneers render Marine Plywood an extremely robust and resilient product.
How To Cut Marine Plywood
Despite its strength, cutting Marine Plywood is anything but difficult. Simply cut it to size with a jigsaw and cut along the grain lines to achieve a smoother cut. The boards can also be cut using standard power tools.
