What Is 15mm Plywood Hardwood Faced Sheet?

15mm Plywood Hardwood Faced Structural Grade stands out as a dependable, dimensionally stable material suitable for demanding construction tasks.

Its resistance to warping, smooth surface finish, and adherence to industry standards make it an excellent choice for various building projects, including floors, walls and roofs.

Comprised of multiple layers of thin veneer wood, this strong board features a hardwood face - a one-piece face veneer. Its core consists of a variety of light hardwoods, Poplar or a mix of these. It also conforms to the following standards EN636-2, EN314-2.

Where Is 15mm Hardwood Plywood Used?

15mm Hardwood Ply provides consistent strength and stability to both interior and exterior applications (such as external wall panels and claddings, as long as all edges are sealed).

If you are looking for an exterior grade plywood sheet, our Marine Plywood is the ultimate hardwood external grade in terms of strength and weatherproofing.

We recommend using Structural Hardwood 15mm Plywood in the following applications:

  • Furniture
  • Bath panelling
  • Flooring
  • Sheds
  • Packing cases
  • Storage boxes
  • Trailer linings
  • Interior vehicle building
  • General joinery

Note that if you are using the sheets for furniture making, plywood absorbs more paint than other wood products.

15mm Plywood Key Features & Many Benefits

  • Versatility – 15mm plywood can be used in many general-purpose applications, such as internal and external joinery (providing it is properly sealed)
  • Strength - Thanks to the cross-graining process by which it is manufactured, it has a high strength-to-weight ratio. It also provides a high level of impact resistance
  • Complies to EN314-2 Class 2 glue
  • Service class EN636 Class 2
  • CE marked
  • Cross-layered timber veneered panel
  • Quality hardwood facings with lightweight softwood core
  • Durability - Designed to resist warping and bending
  • Appearance - Due to its appealing aesthetic appearance and smooth sanded surface, plywood can provide a sleek finish when making furniture such as doors and cabinets

15mm Structural Hardwood Plywood Manufacturing Process

Hardwood Plywood is an engineered wood that comprises multiple thin timber layers laid at right angles, which are then heat bonded together using a resin adhesive.

When manufacturing plywood, each individual adjacent layer is rotated from 45-90 degrees so the wood grain is going in different directions in each layer, which improves strength and prevents warping. This process is known as "cross graining".

The combination of these thin layers improves strength and makes the plywood sheets suitable for a wide range of construction applications.

WBP Plywood 15mm Explained

The term "WBP Plywood" (which stands for "Weather and Boil Proof") refers to the type of glue that is used to bond the layers of wood veneer together.

This terminology has been superseded by the EN314 and EN636 classifications, which define the bonding quality of the adhesive and the standards to which the plywood will perform.

All of our general-use hardwood birch plywood sheet materials (made from birch veneers) meet level 2 under these classifications, which means that they are suitable for use in humid conditions, and can be used outside if properly sealed.

If it is exposed to moisture for a long duration of time, it can be prone to swelling and losing its shape.
