What Is 12mm MDF?
12mm MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is a high-density, smooth-finished engineered wood sheet ideal for a variety of indoor, non-structural applications, including furniture, shelving, cabinetry, and interior joinery.
Its fine, uniform texture allows for precise cutting, drilling, and shaping, making it well-suited to both custom builds and CNC machining - ideal for producing clean edges, intricate designs, and repeatable precision at scale.
Our 12mm MDF conforms to Bond Class BS EN622-1 for dry internal use and holds an E1 formaldehyde rating, indicating low VOC emissions and suitability for safe indoor environments.
Standard MDF is not moisture-resistant, which means it should only be used in dry indoor conditions. For projects in high-humidity areas like bathrooms or kitchens, opt for our moisture-resistant MDF, which contains water-repellent resins to withstand damp environments.

Finishing 12mm MDF Boards
To get the best results when finishing MDF, always begin by applying a solvent-based primer. This helps seal the board and allows paint or stain to adhere evenly. Once primed, you can choose from several finishing options:
Paint or Stain
MDF can be finished in any colour using standard paints or wood stains. Thin, even coats produce the smoothest results.
Clear Finish
Lacquer or varnish enhances the MDF’s natural appearance and adds a protective barrier for longevity.
Veneer Finish
For a premium look, MDF can be overlaid with wood veneers that mimic the texture and grain of real timber - ideal for high-end furniture or interior detailing.
