What Is 25mm MDF?

25mm MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) is a commonly used particle board used for everything from furniture to flooring, with its primary use lying in internal uses such as carpentry and furniture building. Due to its inability to handle moisture, Standard MDF is purposed for interior use in dry conditions only.

If it's moisture resistance you're after, we do sell a moisture-resistant MDF imbued with moisture repellent resin to ensure it holds up in areas of high humidity such as the bathroom or kitchen. In short, standard MDF is an ideal sheet material for non-structural internal use in the majority of domestic and internal applications.

With their impeccably smooth sanded surface, 25mm MDF sheets offer an ideal substrate for various finishing techniques, including painting and staining. Characterised by their knot-free composition, these sheets are particularly well-suited for customising internal applications such as shelving and furniture, where a flawless finish is paramount.

25mm MDF Board Finishing

The best way to paint MDF is to first coat it in a solvent-based primer of your choice, as this will help the paint adhere to the surface. Whichever finish you choose, make sure to apply it evenly and in thin coats.

There are a few options when it comes to finishes for your MDF board:

  • Clear Finish: A meticulously applied coat of lacquer or varnish not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the panel but also serves as a protective barrier against environmental factors, ensuring longevity and durability.
  • Stain or Paint: Offering a spectrum of colour possibilities, stains and paints provide the means to infuse personalised hues and tones.
  • Veneer Finish: A veneer overlay bestows a touch of elegance and sophistication to the panel, mimicking the natural grain patterns of wood while offering the added advantage of customisation through staining or painting, thus harmonising aesthetics with functionality.
