What Is a 6ft Green Treated Square Top Wooden Fence Post?

6ft Green Treated Square Top Wooden Fence Post 1800mm x 75mm x 75mm (3" x 3") is a structural sawn softwood post manufactured for use as a vertical load-bearing member in timber fencing systems. The post has a nominal length of 1800mm and a uniform 75mm x 75mm square section, with a square-cut top to support a level fence line or accommodate capping elements if required.

The timber is pressure treated in accordance with Use Class 4 (UC4) standards, suitable for ground contact and exterior structural use. Treatment is carried out using a copper-based preservative, offering resistance to fungal decay, insect infestation and moisture-induced degradation. The green colouring associated with treatment will fade over time as the timber acclimatises and weathers.

Installation is typically carried out at 1.8m centres to correspond with standard fencing panels. Posts should be embedded to a minimum depth of 600mm to ensure structural integrity under wind and service loads.

Fixing is typically carried out using concrete or a proprietary post mix to provide a stable and durable foundation. Where site conditions or structural limitations prevent standard embedment, alternative methods such as surface-mounted post supports or gravel backfill may be employed.

Please Note: The finished size of our wooden posts vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished to 70mm x 70mm. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.

Applications

  • Boundary fencing for residential properties
  • Feather edge and closeboard fence systems
  • Overlap and lap panel installations
  • Decorative or picket-style fencing
  • Low-level garden divisions and edging
  • Supporting framework for gates or screens
  • Allotments, raised beds and light agricultural enclosures

Benefits

  • Suitable for Ground Contact: Pressure treated to Use Class 4 (UC4), ensuring long-term durability when installed in direct contact with soil or concrete.
  • Enhanced Resistance to Decay: Treated with a copper-based preservative to guard against fungal attack, insect infestation, and moisture-related deterioration.
  • Structural Stability: 75mm x 75mm square section offers reliable load-bearing capacity for most domestic fencing configurations.
  • Uniform Finish: Sawn square top allows for consistent alignment across fence runs and compatibility with post caps or decorative features.
  • Ease of Handling and Installation: Manageable 1800mm length enables straightforward transport, positioning, and fixing on site.
