What Is 9x2 Timber 4.2m?
4.2 m C24 Graded 9×2 Treated Timber is a pressure-treated softwood meticulously graded to C24, delivering outstanding structural integrity and dimensional stability in load-bearing applications such as framing, beams, and joists.
Its C24 classification attests to compliance with exacting strength standards, equipping it to withstand the rigours of diverse construction and structural environments.
Please Note: The finished size of our carcassing timber may vary slightly from the nominal dimensions. You can expect to receive timber that is finished with a thickness 2mm less and a width 5mm less than the nominal measurements stated. Colour and finish are representative only and may vary slightly as this is a natural product.
Pressure Treatment
The timber undergoes a pressure treatment process using a copper-based preservative, which protects the wood from decay, rot, and insect infestations. This treatment ensures the timber is well-suited for outdoor use, even in environments with high moisture exposure, such as in garden structures, decking, and fencing.
The treatment also extends the lifespan of the timber, providing long-term reliability and reducing maintenance needs.
Applications
Structural Framing:
- Timber Framing: Used in load-bearing structural applications such as walls, roofs, and floors, the C24 grade ensures it meets the necessary strength standards for residential and commercial buildings.
- Beams & Joists: Ideal for beams and joists in loft conversions, floor systems, and roof structures due to its high strength-to-weight ratio.
- Post & Rafters: Frequently used for larger-scale projects like barn or garage construction where strength and stability are essential.
Decking:
- Decking Framework: As a key structural element in decking, it is suitable for the framework of decks, ensuring a strong and stable base to support decking boards and withstand weathering over time.
- Timber Walkways: Highly durable for outdoor walkways or bridges, providing long-lasting, robust support.
Garden Structures:
- Sheds and Pergolas: Suitable for the construction of garden sheds, pergolas, and greenhouses, its treated nature ensures that it can withstand exposure to the elements without rotting or degrading.
- Fencing: When used as part of a fencing structure, it provides strong, long-lasting support that can resist moisture damage and pest issues.
Landscaping Projects:
- Raised Beds: Can be used in the construction of garden borders or raised beds, ensuring structural integrity in demanding outdoor environments.
- Timber Edging: For garden paths, borders, or driveways, the timber's strength and treatment make it ideal for edging and providing structural support in landscaping projects.
Agricultural Use:
- Barns and Outbuildings: Ideal for constructing agricultural buildings, such as barns and storage sheds, where exposure to the elements is constant.
- Livestock Fencing: As a framing material in livestock fencing, this timber provides the durability required to withstand the rigours of an agricultural environment.
Benefits
- C24 Grading: Complies with European standards for structural timber, offering reliable strength and durability in load-bearing applications.
- Dimensions: 47mm x 225mm (9" x 2") with a length of 4.2 meters, offering versatility in both large and small-scale projects.
- Pressure-Treated: Treated with a copper-based preservative to provide enhanced resistance to moisture, decay, and insect damage.
- Durable & Long-Lasting: Ideal for use in both domestic and commercial environments, the timber is designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for a wide range of construction and landscaping projects, including structural framing, decking, and garden structures.
Installation and Handling
- Ease of Use: The timber can be easily cut, drilled, and shaped to suit specific project requirements. Its sawn finish provides a clean surface for further treatment or finishing if desired.
- Safety: As with all treated timber, it is recommended to wear protective gloves and a dust mask when cutting or working with the timber to avoid skin contact with the preservative and minimize inhalation of dust.
Maintenance
- Long-Term Protection: The pressure treatment provides extended protection against rot and decay; however, regular inspection is recommended, particularly in high-moisture environments.
- Re-treatment: In particularly harsh conditions or after heavy wear, re-treatment of the timber may be required to maintain its protective qualities.
