These days, installing moisture-resistant plasterboard in high-moisture environments is an industry standard. Standard plasterboard is adversely affected by moisture, being unable to cope with intermittent exposure to water which renders it damaged and enfeebled.

On the opposite end of the scale, you have the hard-to-resist 12.5mm Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Tapered Edge Plasterboard, offering excellent moisture resistance.

These 2400mm x 1200mm boards feature silicone additives along with water repellent liners, making them a must in intermittent moisture applications where high moisture and humidity are present: kitchens, bathroom walls and ceilings, to name a few. They are also suitable for use in external soffits that are in sheltered positions.

What's more, this impressive plasterboard absorbs less than 5% of water and offers both fire and sound resistance properties.

12.5mm Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Tapered Edge Plasterboard Applications

Moisture-resistant plasterboard is not just the best type of drywall solution for humid environments, it is the only appropriate drywall solution. Standard plasterboard is damaged and weakened by the presence of moisture. Gyproc Moisture Resistant Plasterboard defies damage with water repellent additives in its core and paper liners, reducing the risk of water damage in moist and humid conditions. This makes it perfect for dry lining internal walls and ceilings.

12.5mm Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Tapered Edge Plasterboard's moisture resistant features also make it suitable for:

  • Kitchen and bathroom walls
  • Ceiling installations

12.5mm Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Tapered Edge Cutting

Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board may be cut using a plasterboard saw or by scoring with a sharp knife and snapping the board over a straight edge.

12.5mm Gyproc Moisture Resistant Board Tapered Edge Finishing

It is possible to skim moisture-resistant plasterboard as long as a bonding agent is used before starting the skimming process. Some people in the building industry believe that it is possible and easier just to skim directly onto the moisture-resistant plasterboard, so it is a matter of personal choice how you accomplish the task.

It is also possible to apply paint directly to the surface of MR plasterboard and the water repellent liners but it must first be prepared with a plaster bonding agent in order for the paint to adhere to the surface. This is in accordance with the British Gypsum guidelines.
