What Are 22mm x 100mm Green Treated Feather Edge Fence Boards?
22mm x 100mm green treated feather edge fence boards are tapered sawn timber boards commonly used in the construction of overlapping vertical fencing systems, such as closeboard or feather edge fencing.
Each board is machined with a gradual taper, allowing for tight, overlapping installation that forms a uniform, weather-resistant cladding when fixed side by side.
The boards are pressure treated with a green preservative to enhance durability and improve resistance to rot, fungal attack, and moisture ingress. This treatment significantly extends their service life in outdoor, exposed environments.
These boards are typically fixed vertically to horizontal support rails (such as arris rails) and may be used in conjunction with gravel boards and timber or concrete posts.
Please note: Dimensions stated are nominal and may vary slightly due to machining and moisture content. Colour may also vary due to the treatment process.
22mm x 100mm Timber Sizing Explained
The sizing of 22mm x 100mm timber is considered to be either:
- Nominal Size: 22mm x 100mm
- Finished Size: 16mm x 94mm
This slight discrepancy is accounted for by the way the timber is cut and prepared. The difference in the two sizes is minuscule and should not make a meaningful difference to your project. At Materials Market, we sell the finished size.
Green Treated Timber
When you imagine green treated timber, it is natural to envision a bright green hue comparable to that of freshly-mowed grass. However, the term "green wood" actually has nothing to do with its colour; rather than being green in shade, green timber is simply a wooden tone interspersed with subtle hints of green.
The distinctive green tinge seen in green-treated timber is not the intended shade, but rather a natural outcome from pressure treating it - an effective process designed to extend its life expectancy and make it more durable.
The copper-based preservatives used in this method react with oxygen, causing the timber's surface to oxidise and thus become slightly green.
