How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.

Product Overview
Multi Purpose Compost delivered in a standard bag with a 50L volume. Formulated from a balanced blend of peat, loam, and essential plant nutrients, this growing medium supports root development, water retention, and aeration across diverse planting environments. It provides an immediate nutrient release to sustain initial plant establishment while maintaining structural integrity to prevent soil compaction over time.
Designed for broad utility, the substrate accommodates seed sowing, potting on, and the conditioning of existing garden beds. Its composition ensures optimal drainage while retaining sufficient moisture to sustain hydration during drier periods. Delivered in a weather-resistant polyethylene sack, the product arrives ready for immediate deployment in domestic and commercial horticultural settings where manual portability is required.
The material is milled and graded to a particle size of 0-10mm to ensure even distribution and uniform root contact throughout the planting area. The total supplied volume is 50L.
Features & Benefits
- Nutrient-enriched formulation: Incorporates a base fertiliser that sustains plant growth and root establishment for the first four to six weeks of planting.
- Balanced moisture retention: Blended to hold water effectively while allowing excess moisture to drain, preventing root rot in potted plants and borders.
- Friable texture: Promoted by a 0-10mm grading, this structure prevents hard panning and encourages uninterrupted fibrous root expansion.
- Weed-free composition: Processed to eliminate seeds and pathogens, ensuring a clean growing environment for sensitive seedlings and new plants.
- Volume capacity: The 50L volume provides sufficient material to fill one standard 50-litre planter or top-dress a 1-square-metre bed to a depth of 50mm, offering a practical size for individual and smaller-scale planting tasks.
Applications
- Seed sowing: Provides a fine, stable medium for germinating seeds in trays or directly in prepared beds.
- Potting on: Supports the transition of seedlings and young plants into larger containers with necessary structural support.
- Container planting: Acts as a standalone growing medium for hanging baskets, patio pots, and window boxes.
- Soil improvement: Integrates into existing garden borders to replenish organic matter and improve overall soil friability.
Installation Guidance
- Site preparation: Clear the target area or container of existing weeds, debris, and depleted soil before application. Material aeration: Fluff the compost thoroughly with a hand fork upon opening the bag to restore volume lost during transit settling.
- Filling containers: Distribute the compost evenly into the pot, leaving a 20mm gap below the rim to accommodate watering without overflow.
- Plant insertion: Create a void suited to the root ball size, insert the plant, and firm the compost gently around the base to eliminate large air pockets.
- Initial hydration: Water the applied area immediately after planting to settle the compost and initiate the release of base nutrients.
Compliance & Performance
- Material specification: Comprises a proprietary blend of peat, green compost, coir, and added NPK fertilisers to support general-purpose horticulture.
- pH level: Maintained at a neutral range of 5.5 to 6.0, establishing suitability for the vast majority of non-ericaceous plants.
- Packaging standard: Supplied in a heavy-duty, tear-resistant polyethylene bag for secure transport, manual handling, and temporary outdoor storage.
- Important note: Always wear gardening gloves when handling compost and wash hands thoroughly after use to prevent potential exposure to naturally occurring microorganisms.
