Product Overview
Kingspan Kooltherm K103 Floor Insulation Board in a 50mm thickness.
This board delivers premium thermal performance for ground-floor constructions. The fibre-free phenolic core achieves a low thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K, supporting strong energy retention in concrete slabs, screeded floors, and suspended timber systems.
The board is faced on both sides with a durable glass-tissue layer autohesively bonded to the core, providing a stable surface compatible with common floor build-ups. Its closed-cell structure resists air infiltration and water vapour passage, ensuring consistent long-term performance within the floor assembly.
A minimum compressive strength of 120 kPa at 10% compression accommodates typical domestic and commercial floor loading when used beneath unreinforced screeds. Its lightweight construction helps reduce site disruption by limiting soil removal and simplifying service routes during floor preparation.
Handling, cutting, and placement remain straightforward in both new-build and refurbishment settings, with the material offering a non-deleterious insulation option produced using a zero-ODP, low-GWP blowing agent.
Manufactured with a 50mm thickness, it meets standard domestic floor insulation targets.
Features & Benefits
- Premium phenolic insulation: Provides a rigid thermoset phenolic core for high thermal efficiency in ground-floor applications.
- Low thermal conductivity: Achieves a conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K to support strong energy retention across the floor area.
- Air infiltration resistance: Remains unaffected by air movement within the floor assembly for stable thermal performance.
- Water vapour resistance: Offers reliable resistance to water vapour passage to support long-term floor integrity.
- Reduced site preparation: Can help limit soil removal and simplify service routing during ground-floor construction.
- Durable formulation: Provides a non-deleterious material that maintains performance when correctly installed.
- Sustainable manufacture: Produced using a blowing agent with zero ODP and low GWP for responsible specification.
- Easy installation: Lightweight and easy to cut for precise fitting in both new-build and refurbishment settings.
- Thickness specification: 50mm thickness meets standard domestic floor insulation targets.
Applications
- Concrete floors: Suitable for insulation beneath slabs and screeds in domestic and commercial buildings.
- Suspended timber floors: Appropriate for improving thermal performance in timber-based floor constructions.
- Refurbishment projects: Applicable across upgrade works requiring enhanced ground-floor thermal performance.
- Perimeter detailing: Compatible with perimeter upstand insulation to reduce heat loss at wall-to-floor junctions.
Installation Guidance
- Substrate preparation: Ensure the supporting base is clean, level, and protected by an effective damp proof membrane.
- Board arrangement: Lay boards tightly with staggered joints to minimise thermal bridging across the floor.
- Perimeter treatment: Install suitable upstand insulation to improve wall-to-floor junction performance.
- Load application: Apply screed or slab layers in accordance with the chosen floor design and load requirements.
- Accurate cutting: Cut panels cleanly using a fine-toothed saw to achieve a precise and stable installation fit.
Compliance & Performance
- Material specification: Manufactured from a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core with glass-tissue facings.
- Thermal performance: Provides a low thermal conductivity of 0.018 W/m·K for efficient floor insulation design.
- Compressive strength: Minimum compressive strength of 120 kPa at 10% compression suitable for typical floor loading.
- Environmental management: Produced under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS OHSAS 18001, and ISO 50001 certified systems.
- Moisture considerations: Must be installed above a damp proof membrane and not used in direct contact with subsoil.
- Durability: Offers long service life when protected within the floor assembly and supported by suitable construction.
- Important note: Handle with standard site PPE, avoid solvent-based adhesives containing methyl ethyl ketone, and ensure boards are protected from harsh solvents or acids before installation.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
