What is 18mm Birch Plywood?
18mm Birch ply is meticulously crafted from premium Birch veneers of uniform thickness, meticulously bonded and layered in alternating orientations to achieve the desired thickness. This results in a remarkably consistent and robust panel, boasting well-documented engineering properties.
18mm Birch plywood features a commercial-grade veneer on both faces, graded as BB. This grade allows for natural imperfections such as patches and knots, making it suitable for general woodworking where face grade is not the primary concern.
While not inherently moisture resistant, proper sealing and finishing techniques can enhance moisture resistance for specific applications.
18mm Birch Plywood BB/BB Face Grade Meaning
BB grade may showcase small knots and imperfections.
A BB/BB grade surface permits 3 to 6 small, colour-coordinated patches and might feature minor mineral lines.
You may also come across unobtrusive pin knots.
It's also worth noting that while the BB grade board predominantly exhibits a light hue and a smooth surface, slight colour inconsistencies can occur across it.
