When it comes to acoustic insulation, it pays to invest in dense, thick rolls. 100mm Earthwool acoustic rolls are the thickest sound-deadening rolls in the Knauf Acoustic insulation range.

Made from glass mineral wool, they contain thousands of minuscule air pockets which trap sound as it passes through, muffling noise and thus reducing noise transmission.

These rolls are simply magic at providing a sound absorbent layer within internal floors and walls. The 1200mm width rolls also feature perforations at 600mm, making them easy to install between plasterboard partitions and floor joists.

100mm Earthwool Acoustic Sound Insulation Roll Applications

Knauf Earthwool Acoustic Roll 100mm is part of the glass mineral wool family. Thanks to Knauf's innovative ECOSE Technology, it is a lot softer and fluffier than its glass mineral cousins.
With a density of at least 10kg/m2, Knauf Acoustic Partition Rolls (APR) 100mm can be used in both wall and floor applications to reduce the passage of sound transmission and improve thermal and fire performance.

Earthwool Acoustic Roll is specifically designed for friction fitting between resilient timber battens and timber studs in robust detail separating floors and walls at 400mm and 600mm centres.

Earthwool Knauf insulation acoustic roll can be used in the following residential building elements:

  • Separating walls and floors
  • Internal walls and floors
  • Timber and metal stud partitions (including commercial metal stud partitions)

100mm Earthwool Acoustic Sound Insulation Roll Applications

Using glass mineral wool as a sound absorbent layer in partitions and floors significantly improves their acoustic performance, whilst only adding minimally to the overall mass of the structure.

In partitions glass mineral wool complements the plasterboard linings by absorbing airborne sound in the cavity and reducing reverberation; it is particularly effective at preventing the hollow sound that can occur in partitions with unfilled cavities.

Let's have a look at the specs:

  • Excellent sound absorption characteristics provide high levels of sound reduction
  • Friction fits between studs and closes joints, ensuring continuity of the absorbent layer with no air gaps
  • Roll format allows for quick and economic installation
  • Ready-cut rolls for use with timber studs at 400mm centres or timber studs at 600mm centres
  • Euroclass Reaction to Fire Classification (A1-F): A1
  • Proven test results with all major brands of plasterboard to provide assured compliance with sound-related building regulations

Knauf Acoustic Roll 100mm Certifications

  • Generic BRE Green Guide Rating A+
  • Classified as Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and Zero GWP (Global Warming Potential)
  • A1 Euroclass Fire Rating
  • Manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13162
  • Awarded the DECLARE `Red List Free’ label - meaning no 'Red List' ingredients, including formaldehyde or phenolic

Handling & Storage Earthwool 100mm Insulation Roll

Earthwool acoustic roll is easy to handle and install, being lightweight and easily cut to size. It is supplied in polythene packs which are designed for short term protection only. When it comes to storage, we advise that you store the slabs inside; keeping them nice and dry.

100mm Knauf Earthwool Acoustic Performance

The fibre matrix of Knauf Earthwool rolls encourages the absorption of sound waves, whereas other insulation types simply let the sound pass through. If your walls and floors are not insulated, there are very few barriers for the sound waves to get through. The more layers the vibrations have to travel through, the fewer that will make it into the next room.

The rolls have a minimum density of 10kg/m3, and this manufactured density meets standards for robust detail walls and floors, such as separating floors and walls.

Knauf is one of the well known major brands and I am very pleased with how quickly this could be installed. The roll format meant the insulation could be easily carried up to the loft.
