What Are 100mm Celcon Blocks?

The 100mm Celcon Standard Grade Plain Face Block is a lightweight, high-performance aircrete block designed to simplify construction without compromising on structural integrity or regulatory compliance.

With a compressive strength of 3.6N/mm² and a low thermal conductivity of 0.15 W/m·K, this block is a versatile option for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications across residential, commercial, and multi-storey developments.

Celcon Standard Grade Blocks

Manufactured in the UK by H+H, Celcon blocks are made from precast autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) - a finely tuned blend of cement, lime, pulverised fuel ash (PFA) or sand, water, and a minute quantity of aluminium powder.

This chemical reaction produces hydrogen gas, which forms countless tiny air pockets, giving the block its lightweight, cellular structure.

Once aerated, the material is set in moulds, cut to size, and steam-cured in autoclaves, resulting in a strong, stable block with excellent thermal and acoustic properties. The average dry density of this product is around 600kg/m³, offering a unique combination of light weight and structural strength.

It is classified as Euroclass A1 (non-combustible) in terms of fire resistance, and is suitable for use both above and below ground level, including areas subject to freeze-thaw exposure.

Applications

  • Internal and external leaves of cavity walls
  • Solid wall construction
  • Foundation walls and below-DPC applications
  • Separating walls
  • Beam and block floor infill
  • Loadbearing and non-loadbearing partitions
  • Multi-storey residential and commercial buildings

Benefits

  • Versatile: Suitable for use both above and below damp-proof course (DPC), this block simplifies construction by offering a single solution for multiple applications - from external cavity walls to internal partitions.
  • Lightweight and Easy to Handle: Weighing just 5.68kg, it supports quicker installation with reduced strain on site workers and improved productivity.
  • Strong and Durable: With a compressive strength of 3.6N/mm², it’s ideal for use in residential and commercial projects, including multi-storey buildings.
  • Thermal Efficiency: A thermal conductivity rating of 0.15 W/m·K makes this block an excellent contributor to a building’s overall energy performance.
  • Minimises Site Confusion: Its suitability for floor, wall, and foundation use eliminates the need for multiple block types, streamlining deliveries and on-site coordination.
  • Non-Combustible and Durable: Rated Euroclass A1, the block will not contribute to the spread of fire. Its resistance to freeze-thaw cycles makes it suitable for external and below-ground use.
