Pencil round skirting is a type of skirting board or baseboard moulding commonly used in interior design and construction. It is characterised by a rounded profile or edge that is reminiscent of the shape of a pencil. The moulding is typically made from wood or high-density, moisture-resistant white MDF (medium-density fibreboard) and is used to cover the gap between the wall and the floor and to provide a decorative element to a room.

Pencil round skirting is a type of baseboard moulding that has a rounded edge. It gets its name from the fact that its profile is similar in shape to a pencil.

Otherwise known as 'Mini Bullnose skirting board', pencil round MDF skirting has a much tighter radius than the traditional Bullnose profile. This creates a lighter, more delicate curve that adds subtle sophistication to any interior space.

Frequently Asked Pencil Skirting Board Questions

What Is the Difference Between Bullnose and Pencil Round Skirting?

Suppliers may use either term to describe a skirting board that features a rounded edge profile. However, there may be some variations between different products.

For example, the radius of the curve, the extent of the curve, and the shape of the curve may vary. Some skirting boards may have a completely round edge while others may have a straight edge before the curve.

These are just a few of the possible differences between bullnose and pencil round skirting designs. Generally, when purchasing a product with either of these names, you should expect to receive a skirting board with a small round edge.

What Is Behind Pencil Round's Popularity?

One of the main reasons behind pencil round's popularity is its simplicity. The minimalist design of the pencil round profile makes it suitable for almost any interior. Additionally, its lack of intricate details makes it easy to clean and decorate.

Let's take a look at a few more benefits that come with choosing pencil round skirting:

  • Installation of pencil round skirting board is generally straightforward - simple design makes it easier for carpenters to mitre and join together
  • In terms of style, it doesn't steal the show but still provides a smooth, rounded edge
  • Can aid in emphasising other interior decorations
  • A safe choice for homes with young children or pets - eliminates the risk of sharp edges that may be present in other designs

What Are The Benefits of Water Based Primer?

Water-based primer is applied in a vacuum coater to achieve a consistency that cannot be replicated with old-fashioned methods such as hand spraying.

Water-based primer is utilised to prepare a surface for a final coat of paint. This primer aids the finishing coat of paint to adhere better and results in a more even and spotless finish.

What Is Rebated Skirting?

For the sake of hiding away wires and pipes, a skirting board can be engineered with grooves of varying depths and thicknesses. These artistic rebates efficiently allow for wires to fit snugly behind them, making for a more cohesive finish.

A cable rebate is 20mm high, and a pipe rebate is 40mm high as standard.
