Product Overview
Rock Salt supplied in an 800kg bulk bag, consisting of naturally mined halite crystals with a coarse granular texture and high sodium chloride purity.
The material is formulated for fast-acting ice and snow clearance, breaking surface bonds and accelerating melting in sub-zero conditions. Its coarse grain structure provides long-lasting de-icing performance with reduced scatter loss and even surface coverage.
Sourced from natural salt deposits, it is screened for effective particle size to balance rapid melting with durability under traffic. Distinctive pale pink or brown tones arise from trace minerals within the deposit, with no impact on performance.
Features & Benefits
- High purity sodium chloride: Ensures reliable melting efficiency even at low ambient temperatures.
- Coarse granular structure: Provides steady release and reduced scatter loss during spreading.
- Natural mineral composition: Sourced from geological salt beds, containing trace minerals that add colour and improve traction.
- Fast-acting de-icing performance: Quickly penetrates ice layers and prevents re-freezing on treated surfaces.
- Durable and free-flowing: Minimises clumping in cold storage and spreads evenly through mechanical or manual spreaders.
- Suitable for high-traffic areas: Performs effectively on roads, car parks, footpaths, and access routes under heavy use.
- 800kg bulk bag supply: Ideal for large-scale winter maintenance operations, reducing downtime and replenishment frequency.
Applications
- Road and highway clearance: Effective for melting ice and preventing re-freeze on main routes.
- Car parks and access roads: Provides traction and safety in commercial and industrial environments.
- Footpaths and pedestrian zones: Reduces slip hazards on public walkways during frost and snow.
- Yard and loading bays: Maintains safe, operational surfaces for vehicle and pedestrian movement.
Installation Guidance
- Apply evenly: Distribute rock salt at a consistent rate using a spreader or shovel to ensure full coverage.
- Pre-treat before freezing: Apply ahead of forecast frost or snowfall for best results.
- Reapply as required: Repeat after heavy snowfall or rainfall to maintain effectiveness.
- Store under cover: Keep bulk bags in a dry, sheltered area to prevent moisture absorption and clumping.
Compliance & Performance
- Material specification: Natural halite rock salt conforming to BS 3247:2011 for de-icing grade salt.
- Melting performance: Effective at temperatures down to –10°C depending on spread rate and surface conditions.
- Storage stability: Long shelf life when stored in dry conditions away from moisture.
- Environmental note: Use sparingly near vegetation or waterways to reduce potential salt run-off.
- Important note: Handle with appropriate PPE to avoid skin irritation from prolonged contact.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
