How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.

Product Overview

4.5m x 50m geotextile membrane, manufactured from 90g/m² non-woven polypropylene fibres, covering 225m2 per roll.

Its 90gsm weight classifies it as a light to medium-duty geotextile, well suited to domestic driveways, garden paths, patios, and general landscaping projects where ground conditions are stable.

The membrane performs three primary functions: separation, filtration, and stabilisation. It acts as a barrier between sub-grade soils and sub-base aggregates, prevents intermixing of construction layers, and allows water to pass freely while retaining fine particles. This combination extends the life of driveways, reduces rutting and settlement, and maintains drainage efficiency.

For very heavy vehicles, unstable ground, or commercial-grade applications, a heavier geotextile (100gsm–150gsm+) should be used to provide additional strength and load-bearing capacity.

Durable, rot-proof, and chemically inert, the fabric is easy to handle and supplied in a 4.5m x 50m roll, making it ideal for commercial landscaping or agricultural use requiring maximum coverage.

Features & Benefits

  • Enhanced driveway longevity: Prevents sub-base aggregates from sinking into soil, extending the
  • service life of driveways, paths, and patios.
  • Improved drainage: Allows water to filter through while blocking soil fines, preventing waterlogging and maintaining system efficiency.
  • Effective layer separation: Maintains integrity of soil, hardcore, and bedding layers.
  • Reduces rutting & settlement: Distributes loads across the sub-grade to resist surface deformation.
  • 90gsm non-woven construction: Balanced strength, filtration, and permeability for domestic and light commercial projects.
  • Durable material: Manufactured from rot-proof, chemically inert polypropylene fibres.
  • Weed suppression: Helps prevent weed growth from below, though weeds may still establish if soil or organic matter accumulates above.
  • UV protection required: Must be covered promptly with soil, gravel, or paving; not suitable for long-term sunlight exposure.
  • Extra-wide roll: 4.5m format minimises joins on large-scale sites.

Applications

  • Domestic driveways: Suitable beneath gravel, block paving, or asphalt to prevent layer contamination.
  • Garden paths & patios: Provides stable bases and suppresses weed growth when correctly layered.
  • French drains & land drainage systems: Wraps perforated pipes or lines trenches to prevent soil clogging aggregate.
  • Decking and shed bases: Separates soil from aggregate beneath smaller base constructions.
  • Erosion control: Stabilises mild slopes under mulch or decorative aggregates.
  • General landscaping: Provides separation between soil and decorative stone in garden features.

Installation Guidance

  • Site preparation: Excavate to required depth, remove vegetation and soft spots, and compact sub-grade.
  • Laying the geotextile: Unroll onto the prepared base, laying flat without folds or wrinkles.
  • Overlapping: Overlap sheets by at least 300mm; increase to 500mm on softer ground. Secure laps with ground pegs if required.
  • Placing aggregate: Lay MOT Type 1 or equivalent aggregate carefully to avoid fabric damage, compacting in layers.
  • Subsequent layers: Install bedding sand, paving, or gravel as required for the final finish.

Compliance & Performance

  • Material specification: Non-woven polypropylene geotextile membrane.
  • Weight: 90g/m².
  • Roll size: 4.5m x 50m (225m²).
  • Primary functions: Separation, filtration, and light stabilisation.
  • Moisture management: Allows free water flow while retaining soil fines.
  • Durability: Rot-proof and resistant to soil chemicals.
  •  Load capacity: Suitable for light to medium-duty domestic use; not intended for HGVs or poor ground without engineered design.
  • Application limits: Not designed to bridge voids or act as a structural reinforcement layer.
  • Important note: Must be fully covered after installation to prevent UV degradation.

Questions and Answers

How is the product secured to the ground..

This product can be secured in two ways. Firstly, in the vast majority of cases, geotextile membranes are overlaid with aggregate. The self weight of this is usually sufficient to secure the membrane in place, provided the installation is done well. Secondly, proprietary pins or pegs are available which are knocked through the membrane into the ground beneath. These are useful where a light material such as bark chippings, or a thin layer of gravel is laid. These are the pegs that we sell for this purpose - Black Plastic Fixing Pegs (100/Box) URN: 7003060
