What is 18mm Birch Plywood?
18mm birch plywood sheets are created from birch veneers that are glued and layered in alternating directions (typically right angles).
More layers of finer material result in a more rigid and steadier panel. This process is referred to as cross-bonding and is what grants the boards with their known engineering characteristics.
The result is a superbly consistent strong panel that reaches the required thickness of 18mm with dimensions of 2440mm in length and 1220mm in width.
Birch Plywood BB/BB Face Grade Meaning
BB grade may showcase small knots and imperfections.
A BB/BB grade surface permits 3 to 6 small, colour-coordinated patches and might feature minor mineral lines.
You may also come across unobtrusive pin knots.
It's also worth noting that while the BB grade board predominantly exhibits a light hue and a smooth surface, slight colour inconsistencies can occur across it.
18mm Birch Ply Applications
- High-End Packaging: Ideal for packaging delicate scientific and musical instruments.
- Engineering Sector: Widely used for pattern making due to its reliable engineering properties.
- Furniture Making: Suitable for furniture making where face grade is not overly important.
18mm Birch Ply Benefits
- Consistency: Offers measurable and reliable engineering performance.
- High-Quality Finish: B grade means a clean and smooth surface.
- Excellent Machinability: Cuts and machines with high precision.
What Does Birch Throughout Mean?
Birch Throughout means that the product is made exclusively of birch veneers, enhancing its engineering characteristics, stability, and longevity compared to mixed-wood options like "twin ply."
Packs of 22 Birch Benefits
- Bulk Purchase Advantage: Buying in packs of 22 ensures you have ample stock for larger projects.
- Uniform Quality: Acquiring plywood in packs guarantees consistency in quality across sheets.
- Cost-Effective: Purchasing in bulk often results in cost savings compared to buying individual sheets.
- Reduced Waste: Less packaging material is used for bulk packs, promoting sustainability.
- Convenience: Having a pack of 22 sheets reduces the frequency of reordering, especially for ongoing projects.
