Product Overview

Galvanised brick reinforcement coil with a 175mm width and 20m length. Manufactured from cold-formed, zinc-coated steel, this coil provides continuous bed-joint reinforcement in brick and block masonry.

It delivers tensile strength across mortar joints, reducing the risk of cracking caused by shrinkage, settlement, or thermal movement. The coil unrolls cleanly and lies flat within a standard 10mm mortar bed, ensuring precise alignment without curl or distortion.

The galvanised coating offers dependable corrosion resistance, making it suitable for internal and sheltered external use. For structures in exposed or marine environments, stainless steel reinforcement is recommended.

Compatible with all common masonry units and mortar types, the coil is a practical solution for strengthening walls at openings, junctions, or areas of concentrated stress. By spreading loads evenly through the joint, it maintains structural integrity and preserves the visual continuity of the brickwork.

The 175mm width suits walls of around 215mm thickness (e.g. full block or solid wall construction), maintaining 20mm mortar cover to both faces for secure embedment and lasting performance.

Features & Benefits

  • Tensile control in bed joints: Increases horizontal tensile capacity to resist cracking from shrinkage and thermal movement.
  • Galvanised protection: Zinc coating safeguards against corrosion in internal and low-exposure conditions.
  • Continuous roll format: 20m coil reduces joints, waste, and installation time on extended runs.
  • Easy to cut and form: Cuts cleanly with snips or shears; lays true without distortion.
  • Compatible with common mortars: Works with cement-lime and masonry cement mixes at 10mm bed thickness.
  • Consistent edge cover: Ensures a minimum of 20mm mortar cover on both faces for full embedment.
  • Defined width: 175mm width suited to 215mm wall thickness while maintaining correct mortar cover to both faces.

Applications

  • Crack control at openings: Reinforces above doors and windows to reduce horizontal cracking.
  • Movement management in long runs: Maintains tensile continuity across extended wall sections.
  • Junction reinforcement: Strengthens returns, partitions, and intersections within bed joints.
  • Local reinforcement: Supports areas around chases, service penetrations, or concentrated loads.

Installation Guidance

  • Prepare the bed: Lay a full, even 10mm mortar bed; ensure surfaces are clean and well supported.
  • Position centrally: Position the coil mid-depth within the mortar bed, ensuring not less than 20mm cover to each face in walls of around 215mm thickness.
  • Maintain laps: Overlap successive lengths by at least 225mm; stagger laps between alternate courses.
  • Discontinue at movement joints: Terminate reinforcement at vertical movement joints, anchoring to one side only.
  • Cut safely: Use snips or shears and wear gloves and eye protection.
  • Reinstate cover: Fully embed reinforcement; avoid exposure at edges or perpend joints.

Compliance & Performance

  • Material specification: Cold-formed galvanised steel strip for masonry bed-joint reinforcement.
  • Corrosion resistance: Suitable for internal and sheltered environments; use stainless steel for severe exposure.
  • Design coordination: Detail in accordance with masonry design standards ensuring correct cover and lap length.
  • Handling and storage: Keep dry and off the ground before installation.
  • Important note: Verify coil width against wall leaf thickness to maintain ≥20mm cover; insufficient cover may compromise corrosion protection.
