Product Overview
HardieBacker 12mm Tile Backer Board with a 1200mm length, 800mm width, and 12mm thickness. A cement-based building board specifically developed for use on walls and vertical surfaces in wet or high-moisture areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Manufactured with innovative MouldBlock Technology, it provides a durable, water- and mould-resistant alternative to plasterboard and gypsum-based wall linings. The board’s dense cement composition delivers high compressive and flexural strength, ensuring tiles remain secure under applied loads up to 100kg/m² (vertical applications).
Its paper-free surface prevents rot, swelling, or warping, even when exposed to prolonged dampness. Designed for wall installations and suitable as a tile backer behind natural stone, ceramic, and porcelain tiles.
Features & Benefits
- MouldBlock Technology: Prevents water absorption and mould growth, maintaining long-term board integrity.
- High compressive strength: Up to three times stronger than competitive boards, providing a solid foundation for heavy tiles.
- Superior adhesion surface: Ensures secure bond strength with tile adhesives for finishes up to 200 kg/m².
- EZ Grid recessed fastener pattern: Simplifies screw alignment and speeds up installation.
- Clean cutting properties: Easily scored and snapped with a knife for accurate, dust-minimised cuts.
- Non-paper, non-mesh composition: Eliminates risk of delamination or edge breakdown in humid environments.
- Thermal suitability: Compatible with underfloor heating systems and provides stable insulation performance.
- Dimensional specification 1200mm x 800mm x 12mm: Provides additional stiffness and impact resistance on vertical surfaces.
Applications
- Bathroom and wet room floors: Provides a moisture-resistant substrate for ceramic or stone tiles.
- Kitchen flooring: Prevents tile cracking over timber subfloors by reducing deflection.
- Countertops and work surfaces: Offers a stable, water-impervious surface for tiled finishes.
- Masonry walls: Serves as a durable lining board where high humidity or direct water contact occurs.
Installation Guidance
- Floor preparation: Ensure substrate is level, clean, and free from debris before fitting.
- Fixing to timber floors: Use insulation fixing washers and corrosion-resistant screws to secure the board.
- Fixing to concrete floors: Apply flexible tile adhesive to a primed surface for full contact bonding.
- Cutting and shaping: Score and snap using a utility knife and straight edge; shape around pipes or fittings as required.
- Joint treatment: Stagger board joints and tape using alkali-resistant mesh before tiling for a continuous surface.
Compliance & Performance
- Material composition: 90% Portland cement and sand with no loose aggregate or filler.
- Load capacity: Designed to carry up to 200 kg/m² of adhered tile weight.
- Water and mould resistance: Fully impervious to rot, swelling, and degradation under wet conditions.
- Thermal compatibility: Safe for use with underfloor heating systems and stable under temperature variation.
- Important note: Always wear gloves and safety eyewear when cutting or handling boards to prevent injury or irritation.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
