What Is Hardiebacker 12mm?

For outstanding mould and moisture resistance, rely on HardieBacker 12mm floor tiling backerboard.

HardieBacker 12mm innovative MouldBlock Technology is what endows the boards with their durable water and mould-resistance.

Unlike plywood and plasterboard, 12mm HardieBacker holds up well in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms, making it an ideal substrate for vinyl, natural stone and ceramic tiles.

Its lack of paper facing keeps dangerous mould growth at bay and ensures the boards will not warp or rot when exposed to water.

Aside from offering impressive protection against moisture damage, it also boasts excellent adhesive properties, ensuring that whatever ceramic or stone tile you use, it will hold strong with applied weights of up to 200 kg/m2, up to 3x the compressive strength compared to competitive boards.

What's more, this no-mesh board features an innovative EZ Grid recessed pattern, saving you time and effort when installing.

Where Is 12mm HardieBacker Used?

Whether you're looking to install, ceramic, stone or porcelain tiles, make sure your tiling work stays put with HardieBacker Board 12mm.

Specifically designed for use in wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, the mould-resistant boards perfectly line up with any dry wall and can be fixed directly to any floor, wall or wooden frame.

Tiling on top of floor boards requires a layer of overboard being laid to create stability which Hardiebacker Board 12mm is simply perfect for.

When tiling a wooden floor, 12mm HardieBacker offers a sturdy and flat surface upon which to tile, reducing excessive flex and hence preventing grout from cracking.

For the best protection against moisture damage we recommend using 12mm HardieBacker Board in the following applications:

  • Vinyl, natural stone and ceramic tiles substrate
  • Floors and countertops
  • Masonry solid walls

Its fire resistant properties also make it a super substrate for:

  • Wall panelling behind a boiler
  • Wall panelling behind a multi-fuel or wood-burning stove

12mm Hardie Backer Board Benefits

Thanks to its unique cement formulation and MouldBlock Technology, 12mm HardieBacker board is impervious to water damage and won't rot, swell or warp, even when exposed to the wettest conditions.
Aside from its water-resistant properties, 12mm HardieBacker offers many benefits.

While conventional plasterboards claim to hold up to 32kg, HardieBacker board 12mm can hold 100kg m2. HardieBacker offers higher adhesion to tiles than either timber or plasterboard.

Let's check the specs:

  • Up to 3x the compressive strength of competitive boards - great surface for tiles
  • Easy to cut - single score and snap clean cuts
  • Superior waterproof surface to fix wall or floor tiles
  • Can be installed over existing timber floor or with underfloor heating systems for first class heat insulation
  • Easy to install - includes EZ Grid recessed fastener pattern
  • Clean cuts ensure all edges align tightly
  • Less dust and debris when cut
  • Unique formulation with MouldBlock Technology
  • No loose aggregates or filler
  • Highest flexural strength
  • 90% Portland cement and sand
  • Suitable for use in wet rooms and bathroom
  • Dimensions: 1200 x 800 x 12mm
  • Fastens directly to any floor, wall or wooden frame

How to Cut 12mm HardieBacker

Tile backer boards can be cut with a simple stanley knife and a straight edge - no expensive power tools required.

The boards can be cut in various shapes and sizes, meaning you can cut around pipes and appliances by hand.

12mm HardieBacker Installation Tips

When installing onto wooden floors we recommend using insulation fixing washers and screws.

When installing backer boards onto concrete sub floor we suggest using flexible tile adhesive, ensuring the floor is primed prior to installation.
