Product Overview

Patination Oil in a 500ml bottle, designed as a protective surface treatment for newly installed leadwork.

Its purpose is to prevent the formation of white carbonate staining on adjacent tiles, slates, masonry, or brickwork by providing a stable, even finish. The oil forms a protective barrier that controls oxidation during the initial weathering process, ensuring both the lead and surrounding materials maintain a clean appearance.

500ml bottle is suited to smaller flashing runs, patch jobs, and limited applications, providing reliable protection in a manageable pack size. Easy to apply with a soft cloth or brush, it ensures long-term protection while enhancing the natural patina of the lead.

Features & Benefits

  • Protective finish: Prevents white staining and streaking caused by lead carbonate deposits.
  • Enhanced appearance: Encourages an even, attractive grey patina to form over time.
  • Long-lasting: Provides durable surface protection during the critical early months of weathering.
  • Easy application: Can be applied with a cloth or brush to all exposed lead surfaces.
  • Coverage efficiency: 500ml size ideal for patching, small roof details, or minor works.

Applications

  • Lead flashings: Protects new flashings at chimneys, abutments, and parapets.
  • Dormer details: Applied to cheeks, sills, and roof flashings of dormers.
  • Valleys and gutters: Prevents staining where lead meets slates or tiles.
  • Flat roofs: Ensures lead sheet areas weather evenly.
  • General leadwork: Suitable for any new Code 3, Code 4, or Code 5 lead installations.

Installation Guidance

  • Preparation: Ensure lead surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust.
  • Application: Apply sparingly with a clean cloth or soft brush in one thin coat.
  • Timing: Use immediately after installation of leadwork for maximum protection.
  • Coverage: Spread evenly across all exposed lead surfaces without pooling.
  • Maintenance: Reapplication is not normally required once an even patina has developed.

Compliance & Performance

  • Formulation: Designed specifically for use on roofing lead.
  • Compatibility: Suitable for all grades of lead (Code 3, 4, and 5).
  • Finish: Produces a uniform, non-staining protective layer.
  • Safety: Use gloves during application and ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Container size: 500ml bottle.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
