Made from pine, fir, or spruce, Canadian Lumber Standard (CLS) timber undergoes kiln-drying, treatment, and planing to achieve a C16 grading.
C16, according to the British Standard BS EN 338, is a timber that has been graded to ensure it can safely withstand heavy loads, which is ideal for applications like floor joists, and stud work. To achieve a C16 grade, a machine assesses the characteristics of the wood, such as knots, grain direction, and natural defects. Unlike higher grades, however, natural variation is allowed.
The timber typically has rounded edges, which improves user safety and eases installation. The kiln-drying process also increases resistance to warping and cracking, making the timber ideal for long-term use.
