What Are 100mm x 200mm Green Sleepers 2.4m?
100mm x 200mm green sleepers are sawn, treated softwood sections, supplied in practical 2.4m lengths. These modern landscaping sleepers draw their heritage and name from the railway tracks they once supported.
While distinct from traditional reclaimed railway sleepers (which were typically hardwood and treated with substances like creosote), these 100mm x 200mm green sleepers are specifically prepared for garden use.
They are pressure-treated to provide excellent durability and long-lasting resistance against rot and insect attack, making them a prime, versatile choice for a wide array of demanding landscaping projects, from constructing sturdy retaining walls and defining garden edging to building attractive raised beds.
Applications
- Raised Beds
- Drive, Lawn & Garden Edging

- Cost-effective alternative to traditional hardwood oak railway sleepers
- Ideal for creating raised beds and edging
- Can be stained with a wood protective treatment to match your desired aesthetic
How To Cut 100 x 200 Railway Sleepers
While softwood sleepers can typically be cut with a simple hand saw, a circular saw offers the most efficient and cleanest method. Due to their thickness, you'll likely need to make cuts from multiple sides: score or cut as deep as possible on one face, then carefully flip the sleeper and complete the cut from the opposite side, ensuring the cuts align.
Crucially, whenever you cut treated softwood sleepers, always apply a suitable end-grain wood preservative to any exposed cut surfaces to maintain their weather resistance and prevent premature decay. Allow this preservative to dry thoroughly before installing the sleepers.
