How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.

Product Overview
Softwood railway sleeper measuring 2.4m in length, pressure treated green to UC3 standards for reliable outdoor performance.
At 2.4m long, this sleeper spans typical bed and border dimensions, aligns with standard fence and deck layouts, and reduces the number of joints required in construction.
The timber is pressure treated with a green preservative, which penetrates deep into the grain to protect against fungal decay, rot, and insect attack.
This treatment extends service life in outdoor conditions where the sleeper is exposed to air and rain, provided cut edges are re-sealed with an appropriate preservative.
The 100 × 200mm profile is a practical choice for everyday landscaping, offering enough strength to build raised beds, steps, edging, and low retaining features while remaining lighter and easier to handle than bulkier sections.
Please Note: Timber is a natural material and variations in colour, grain, and finish should be expected. Dimensions are nominal. Treat cut or drilled edges with a suitable preservative to maintain durability.
Features & Benefits
- UC3 green pressure treatment: Preservative treatment penetrates the timber to protect against fungal decay, rot, and insect attack, giving the sleeper reliable durability for long-term use outdoors above ground.
- 2.4m length: Spans common garden bed and fence bay dimensions, reducing the need for multiple joints, speeding up installation, and creating cleaner finishes with less material waste.
- Workable softwood: Can be cut, drilled, and fixed with standard woodworking tools, allowing easy adjustments on site for precise fitting.
- Natural timber finish: Supplied with a green tint from treatment that will weather to a silver-grey patina if left untreated, or can be over-coated with stains and oils for a customised look.
- 100 × 200mm profile: A practical section that offers strong performance for raised beds, edging, and steps while being lighter and easier to cut and handle than bulkier sleeper sizes.
Applications
- Raised beds: Creates strong and durable walls for vegetable or flower beds.
- Path and lawn edging: Adds neat and lasting definition between surfaces.
- Steps and level changes: Provides a stable framework for simple garden steps or low terraces.
- Decorative structures: Introduces rustic character into planters, benches, or informal garden features.
Installation Guidance
- Fixings: Use galvanised or stainless steel sleeper screws, coach bolts, or landscape fixings (typically 150–250mm). Pre-drill pilot holes to reduce splitting and ensure secure fastening.
- Base preparation: Lay sleepers on a firm foundation such as compacted MOT Type 1, sharp sand, or paving slabs. A stable, level base prevents long-term movement.
- Drainage: Maintain airflow and encourage water run-off. Where sleepers are used in raised beds or low retaining roles, backfill with free-draining material to avoid waterlogging.
- Cut ends: Always re-seal any cut or drilled areas immediately with an appropriate end-grain preservative to maintain protection.
- Jointing & stability: Stagger joints for added strength, and secure stacked courses together with long fixings or steel brackets as required.
- Alignment: Use a string line or spirit level during installation. Check regularly to keep runs straight and true.
Compliance & Performance
- Treatment classification: UC3 - suitable for external, above-ground use where timber is exposed to rain and air circulation.
- Service life: Pressure treatment provides long-term resistance to decay; regular inspections and retreatment of cut edges will maximise durability.
- Usage note: Not designed for permanent ground contact (UC4) or for structural building use.
