Product Overview

Rockwool Ablative Coating Liquid supplied in 5L tubs. Water-based, ready-to-use ablative coating designed to enhance the fire-resistant properties of Rockwool stone wool products.

When applied to the surface of Rockwool FireStop or Ablative Coated Batts, the coating forms a protective char that resists flame spread and insulates the underlying mineral wool core under fire exposure.

The coating dries to a flexible white surface finish, creating a stable and durable barrier that improves fire integrity while maintaining ease of application. It can be brush or spray applied directly on-site and provides an excellent substrate for compatible adhesives and fixing sealants.

Available in white as standard, the coating ensures effective fire protection and a uniform finish across large surface areas.

Features & Benefits

  • Enhanced fire resistance: Improves the fire performance of Rockwool stone wool slabs by forming a protective, insulating char.
  • Easy application: Ready-to-use viscous coating suitable for both brush and spray application on site.
  • Durable finish: Dries to a sound, flexible white surface that resists cracking and remains stable under heat exposure.
  • Versatile compatibility: Suitable for use with Rockwool FireStop Slabs and Ablative Coated Batts.
  • Repair and maintenance use: Allows site-applied repair of minor surface damage to pre-coated fire-stopping slabs.
  • Container size: Supplied in 5L tubs for controlled, practical application in construction and refurbishment projects.

Applications

  • Fire-stopping systems: Applied to Rockwool stone wool slabs to upgrade or restore fire resistance at wall and floor junctions.
  • Site repairs: Used to repair damaged or cut surfaces on Rockwool Ablative Coated Batts after installation.
  • Penetration sealing: Supports reinstatement of fire resistance and acoustic performance around pipes, cables, and service openings.
  • Surface finishing: Provides a smooth, flexible coating suitable for painting or adhesive bonding after curing.

Installation Guidance

  • Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or debris before coating.
  • Application method: Apply evenly by brush or spray to achieve full coverage of the slab surface.
  • Drying time: Allow coating to dry thoroughly before handling or overcoating; drying time depends on ambient conditions.
  • Repairs: Apply an additional layer over damaged areas or cut edges to reinstate the protective barrier.
  • Storage: Keep the container sealed when not in use and store in a frost-free environment away from direct sunlight.

Compliance & Performance

  • Material specification: Water-based ablative coating formulated for use with Rockwool stone wool fire-stopping products.
  • Finish: Dries to a flexible, white surface.
  • Compatibility: Suitable for use on Rockwool FireStop Slabs and Ablative Coated Batts.
  • Fire performance: Enhances the fire-resistant and smoke-sealing characteristics of treated Rockwool stone wool.
  • Environmental compliance: Water-based formulation containing no halogens or volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Important note: Fire performance is dependent on the complete system build-up and installation in accordance with Rockwool’s tested specifications.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
