Product Overview
Everbuild Fire Mate Intumescent Acrylic Sealant in White, supplied in a 295ml cartridge. This is a one-part, emulsion acrylic-based sealant designed to provide a fire-resistant and acoustic joint seal in a range of fire-rated structures.
When exposed to temperatures above 125°C, the material expands to more than 150% of its original volume, forming an insulating char that prevents the passage of fire, smoke, and toxic gases.
The formulation is permanently flexible, allowing movement of up to ±7.5% without loss of adhesion, and can be applied to joints up to 50mm wide.
Fire Mate maintains its stability and finish in interior applications where both flame resistance and sound insulation are required, delivering a dependable seal with a curing time of 3 to 5 days at room temperature.
Features & Benefits
- Fire protection performance: Expands when exposed to heat, forming a protective char that resists fire and smoke for up to 4 hours in tested conditions.
- Acoustic insulation: Provides an average noise reduction of 24 dB across the 100–3150 Hz range, supporting effective soundproofing in partition walls and service penetrations.
- Ease of application: Non-slump formula allows smooth tooling and clean edges on vertical and overhead joints.
- Fast curing: Tack-free in approximately 15 minutes, allowing early overpainting and reduced downtime on site.
- Durable flexibility: Maintains elasticity with over 100% elongation to ISO 8339, ensuring long-term joint integrity.
- Surface compatibility: Bonds well to most construction materials without primer; suitable for masonry, plasterboard, timber, and coated metals.
- Overpaintable finish: Accepts most water-based and solvent-based paints once cured, matching surrounding finishes.
- Temperature activation: Intumescent expansion begins at approximately 125°C, providing active fire-sealing response.
- Maximum joint width: Designed for use in joints and voids up to 50mm wide, ensuring full seal coverage in structural applications.
Applications
- Fire-rated joints: Sealing linear gaps and perimeter joints in walls, floors, and partitions to maintain fire compartment integrity.
- Penetration seals: Around pipes, conduits, and cables where they pass through fire-rated walls or floors.
- Door and window perimeters: Internal pointing of fire-rated frames to preserve the integrity of compartment lines.
- Acoustic control: Reducing airborne sound transmission in partition junctions and service openings.
- Interior use: Ideal for dry, internal building environments where both acoustic and fire performance are required.
Installation Guidance
- Surface preparation: Ensure all joints are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and old sealant residues.
- Application method: Cut cartridge tip and nozzle to suit joint width, apply using a standard sealant gun at steady pressure.
- Joint finishing: Smooth the bead immediately with a wetted spatula or tool for full contact and a neat finish.
- Void filling: For large voids, first fill with Everbuild Firefoam B1 to optimise fire resistance before sealing.
- Masking and clean-up: Use masking tape for clean joint lines and remove within 5 minutes of application.
Compliance & Performance
- Fire testing: Complies with BS EN 1366-3:2009 and BS EN 1366-4:2006 fire resistance standards, as certified in Warrington Fire Reports No. 412463 and 412725.
- Acoustic rating: Tested to BS EN ISO 140/3 with an average 24 dB noise reduction.
- Air permeability: Verified to EN 13141-1 for controlled air leakage.
- CE compliance: Certified to EN 15651-1 F-INT for interior façade applications under the Construction Products Regulation.
- Storage and shelf life: Store between +5°C and +30°C; protect from frost. Shelf life 24 months from manufacture.
- Important note: Not suitable for permanently wet areas, structural glazing, or use on substrates that bleed oils, solvents, or plasticisers. Known incompatibility with certain cPVC piping systems.
