Product Overview

Everbuild Black Jack Black Bitumen Paint in a 5 litre tin is a solvent-based, full-bodied bituminous coating formulated to provide durable protection to metal surfaces, timber, concrete and roofing substrates. Once dry, it forms a black, odourless film that offers reliable weatherproofing and corrosion resistance under prolonged exposure.

The coating resists dilute acids, alkalis, salt solutions and water, supporting long-term surface stability across industrial, agricultural and general exterior environments. Its flexibility and adhesion allow it to bond effectively to iron, steel, lead, zinc, aluminium, stone, brick and felt, making it suitable for both refurbishment and protective maintenance work.

Applied by brush or spray, the product provides efficient coverage on both porous and non-porous substrates, forming a film with a typical wet thickness of 0.1mm and a dry thickness of 0.05mm at an 11m²/L application rate.

Designed for fast drying with predictable film formation, it delivers consistent results when applied in ambient temperatures between +5°C and +40°C.

The 5 litre capacity supports medium to large surface areas requiring weatherproof or corrosion-resistant coating.

Features & Benefits

  • Solvent-based protective coating: Forms a durable black film suitable for long-term exposure on a wide variety of building materials.
  • Weatherproof and waterproof: Provides reliable moisture resistance for exterior surfaces including metal, concrete and timber.
  • Corrosion-resistant film: Helps protect ferrous and non-ferrous metals against oxidation and environmental degradation.
  • Chemical resistance: Withstands dilute acids, alkalis, salt solutions and water for broader application suitability.
  • Fast-drying formulation: Dries within 4–6 hours depending on conditions, allowing efficient progression of work
  • Wide substrate compatibility: Adheres to iron, steel, lead, zinc, aluminium, concrete, stone, brick, felt and wood.
  • Controlled film formation: Produces consistent 0.1mm wet and 0.05mm dry thickness per 11m²/L for predictable coverage.
  • Container size: 5 litres provides a practical volume for coating larger metalwork, roofing elements and concrete structures.

Applications

  • Metal protection: Suitable for corrugated iron, ladders, stairways, fire escapes, gutters, tanks, railings and gates.
  • Concrete and masonry coating: Provides a protective layer for stone, brick, concrete screeds and sand/cement surfaces.
  • Roofing substrates: Can be overcoated on felt and wood to enhance weather resistance.

Installation Guidance

  • Surface preparation: Ensure substrates are dry and clean, removing all dust, grease and debris before application.
  • Metal surface conditioning: Wire-brush to remove rust and apply a rust-inhibitive primer where long-term corrosion protection is required.
  • Porous substrate priming: Prime concrete and cementitious surfaces with a suitable bitumen primer and allow to dry.
  • Application method: Stir thoroughly and apply by brush or spray in a minimum of two coats, allowing 2-4 hours between coats.
  • UV protection option: Apply a solar reflective coating once the bitumen paint has dried if enhanced UV resistance is required.

Compliance & Performance

  • Chemical base: Solvent-based bitumen formulation.
  • Service temperature range: –20°C to +50°C following full cure.
  • Chemical resistance: Resistant to dilute acids, alkalis, salt solutions and water; not resistant to oils or solvent exposure.
  • Yield: Approx. 4-6m²/L on porous surfaces and 11m²/L on non-porous surfaces.
  • Drying time: 4-6 hours depending on drying conditions.
  • Important note: Contains flammable solvent; avoid vapour inhalation, do not use where solvent contact is expected, and do not apply to potable water tanks.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
