How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.

Product Overview
Everbuild Black Jack Bitumen & Flashing Primer in a 1 litre tin is a thin black primer formulated to provide a strong key for subsequent bituminous coatings, paints and flashing tapes. Designed for roofing and general building substrates, it enhances adhesion and supports the performance of applied bitumen layers in both waterproofing and refurbishment works.
It is suitable for use on concrete, cementitious screeds, renders, bitumen felt, asphalt, mastic, timber and weathered metal surfaces, enabling a consistent preparation layer across varied roof and structural surfaces. The product forms a controlled film on metal and penetrates deeply into porous substrates, supporting even application and predictable bonding behaviour.
Brush or spray applied, the primer dries rapidly in favourable weather conditions and provides a clean, receptive base for bituminous paints, roof coatings and flashing membranes. The formulation adheres effectively to porous and non-porous substrates, with higher saturation achievable on fibre cement or rag felt where the surface requires deeper penetration.
Suitable for routine roof preparation and detail work, the 1 litre size offers convenient coverage for smaller priming tasks and repair areas before applying compatible bitumen-based systems.
Features & Benefits
- Fast drying: Forms a receptive surface within 3–6 hours depending on weather conditions.
- Prepares surfaces for bituminous products: Improves adhesion for bitumen paints, coatings and flashing tapes.
- Compatible with multiple substrates: Suitable for concrete, asphalt, felt, wood and weathered metals.
- Controlled film formation: Provides 0.1mm wet and 0.05mm dry film thickness at 11m²/L for uniform priming.
- Brush or spray application: Allows flexible use on small or detailed roof and building surfaces.
- Container size: 1 litre is ideal for localised priming, detailing work and small roof preparation tasks.
Applications
- Roof surface priming: Prepares concrete, cementitious screeds and renders for bituminous coatings.
- Bituminous membrane preparation: Suitable for use on bitumen felt, asphalt and mastic surfaces.
- Timber and metal priming: Used on wood and weathered corrugated metal to enhance coating adhesion.
- Flashing tape preparation: Acts as a bonding primer before applying Black Jack Flashing Tape.
Installation Guidance
- Surface preparation: Ensure all areas are dry, stable and cleaned free from dust, dirt, grease and loose material.
- Metal conditioning: Remove rust by wire brushing and prime separately with a rust-inhibitive primer where needed.
- Application method: Stir thoroughly and apply by brush or spray, scrubbing in to achieve an even, thin coat.
- Porous surfaces: Apply generously to saturate fibre cement or rag felt where deeper penetration is required.
- Drying interval: Allow 3–6 hours drying time, ensuring the solvent has fully evaporated (tack-free) to prevent degradation of tape adhesives before overcoating with bituminous paints or flashing membranes
Compliance & Performance
- Storage & Shelf Life: 24 months from date of manufacture in original, unopened containers.
- Chemical base: White spirit solvent system.
- Chemical resistance: Resistant to dilute acids, alkalis, salt solutions and water; not resistant to oils or solvents.
- Service temperature: −20°C to +50°C (must be overcoated).
- Yield: 4–6m² per litre depending on porosity; up to 11m²/L on non-porous surfaces.
- Important note: Flammable solvent content; avoid vapour inhalation, ensure adequate drying time, and do not use over rusting metal without prior rust-inhibitive treatment.
