Product Overview

Bostik Cempolay Self Levelling Compound supplied in a 20kg bag. A polymer-modified, protein-free cementitious smoothing compound formulated for levelling uneven internal subfloors prior to installing decorative floor coverings.

When mixed with approximately 4 litres of clean water, it produces a free-flowing slurry that rapidly finds its own level, eliminating ridges and hollows to create a uniform surface. The compound remains workable for 15-20 minutes at 20 °C and accepts light foot traffic within 2-4 hours, with most floor coverings suitable for installation after around 16 hours.

Its protein-free composition prevents bacterial growth, ensuring suitability for hygiene-critical environments such as hospitals, food-processing zones, and commercial kitchens.

Designed exclusively for dry, internal use on concrete, sand/cement screeds, stone, or firmly bonded unglazed ceramic tiles, it must always be overlaid with a decorative finish and is not suitable for calcium-sulphate screeds, adhesive residues, underfloor heating, or use as a wearing surface.

Features & Benefits

  • Polymer-Modified Formulation: Enhances adhesion, flexibility, and surface strength on a wide range of internal substrates.
  • Quick Setting: Allows light foot traffic in as little as 2–4 hours, reducing project downtime.
  • Self-Levelling Action: Flows freely to eliminate ridges and hollows, creating a smooth, even surface with minimal trowelling.
  • Protein-Free Composition: Contains no casein or protein, ensuring it does not support bacterial growth and is suitable for hygiene-sensitive areas.
  • Ease of Application: Mixes readily with water to form a lump-free slurry with a working time of 15–20 minutes for efficient use.
  • Internal Use Only: Formulated solely for dry, internal areas where moisture exposure is controlled.

Applications

  • Concrete Subfloors: Provides a smooth, level finish ready for floor covering installation.
  • Sand/Cement Screeds: Corrects uneven surfaces to ensure an even substrate.
  • Unglazed Ceramic Tiles: Can be applied directly over firmly bonded unglazed tiles to achieve a flat, uniform layer.
  • Hygiene and Food Preparation Areas: Ideal for environments requiring resistance to bacterial growth.
  • Interior Use Only: Designed exclusively for dry, internal applications.
  • Exclusions: Not suitable for calcium-sulphate screeds, underfloor heating systems, or as a final wearing surface.

Installation Guidance

  • Surface Preparation: Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, sound, and free from dust, grease, or loose material.
  • Mixing: Combine the 20 kg powder with approximately 4 litres of clean water until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved.
  • Application: Pour the mixed compound onto the prepared surface; it will self-level naturally, with a trowel used as needed to assist flow.
  • Curing: Allow to cure before applying further finishes; suitable for light foot traffic within 2–4 hours at 20 °C and generally ready for floor coverings after 16 hours.
  • Final Finish: Always overlay with an appropriate decorative floor covering once cured.

Compliance & Performance

  • Material Composition: Polymer-modified, protein-free, cement-based compound formulated for internal subfloor levelling.
  • Working and Setting Time: Workable for 15–20 minutes at 20 °C; foot traffic permissible after 2–4 hours.
  • Floor Covering Readiness: Accepts most resilient, textile, or timber coverings after approximately 16 hours.
  • Substrate Suitability: Compatible with concrete, sand/cement screeds, stone, and bonded unglazed ceramic tiles.
  • Restrictions: Not suitable for calcium-sulphate screeds, adhesive residues, underfloor heating, or as a final wearing surface.
  • Important Note: For internal dry areas only. Always follow the manufacturer’s technical data sheet for precise mixing ratios, application conditions, and curing guidance.

How delivery works

We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery areas

Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.

If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.

What to expect on delivery day

  • Deliveries are typically kerbside.
  • Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
  • Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.

Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery

Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.

Returns

Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
