Product Overview
Bostik General Purpose Mortar supplied in a 5kg tub is a pre-blended cement and graded sand formulation for small-scale bricklaying, patching, and repair applications.
Designed for convenience, it allows fresh mortar to be mixed directly in the tub, ensuring minimal waste and controlled preparation for each task.
The grey cement-based powder delivers smooth workability, dependable adhesion, and uniform curing for both internal and external masonry. Ideal for use on bricks, blocks, and stone, it provides consistent results where smaller quantities and quick preparation are required.
Features & Benefits
- Pre-blended formulation: Ready-to-mix blend of cement and fine graded sand for consistent quality and convenience.
- Versatile use: Suitable for laying bricks and blocks, patching, pointing, and minor masonry repairs.
- Reliable bond strength: Ensures strong adhesion to masonry substrates including brick, block, and stone.
- Interior and exterior suitability: Performs effectively in sheltered and exposed applications once fully cured.
- Controlled mixing ratio: Allows accurate water addition for consistent workability and reduced material waste.
- Smooth finish: Produces a cohesive, workable mix ideal for fine pointing and even bedding layers.
- User-friendly packaging: Supplied in a 5kg tub for easy handling, storage, and direct mixing on site.
- Temperature performance: Recommended for use within an application range of +5°C to +25°C.
Applications
- Brick and block laying: Suitable for small-scale wall building, repair, and maintenance work.
- Patching and pointing: Ideal for filling joints, repointing, and restoring damaged mortar in existing masonry.
- General masonry repairs: Appropriate for surface restoration and gap filling on brick, block, or stone structures.
- Installation and maintenance tasks: Convenient for a range of minor property maintenance and masonry fixing works.
Installation Guidance
- Surface preparation: Clean all substrates of loose debris, grease, dust, or contaminants before applying mortar. Dampen porous surfaces lightly without leaving standing water.
- Mixing procedure: Add 100–150ml of clean, cold water per 1kg of mortar powder. Mix by hand or mechanical mixer until a smooth, workable paste is achieved.
- Application method: Apply the mixed mortar using a trowel, pointing tool, or hawk in accordance with standard masonry practice. Work within the one-hour usable period.
- Workability control: Do not re-temper or add extra water once setting has begun, as this may reduce strength and durability.
- Temperature guidance: Use only when ambient and substrate temperatures are between +5°C and +25°C.
- Cleaning: Wash all tools and equipment with warm soapy water immediately after use, before the mortar hardens.
Compliance & Performance
- Composition: Factory-blended cement and fine graded sand with performance additives for consistent setting and adhesion.
- Performance classification: Conforms to general-purpose masonry mortar standards suitable for small-scale applications.
- Colour: Grey, matching standard cement-based finishes.
- Workability time: Approximately one hour at 20°C under normal site conditions.
- Shelf life: Up to 12 months when stored unopened in a cool, dry environment and protected from moisture.
- Health and safety: Contains cement; avoid inhalation, eye, and skin contact. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment during mixing and application.
- Important note: Mix only the quantity that can be used within the working time. Do not add extra cement or water once mixed to maintain performance and strength.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
