What is Bostik Concrete Mould Oil?
Cementone Concrete Mould Oil is a specially formulated release agent designed to ensure the effortless and clean removal of formwork (shuttering) from hardened concrete.
This ready-to-use, water-in-oil emulsion is suitable for application on both timber and metal moulds, helping to produce a smooth, uniform, and stain-free concrete surface every time.
Applications
Cementone Concrete Mould Oil is specifically designed for use as a chemical release agent in a variety of concrete construction scenarios:
- Timber Formwork: Ideal for all types of wooden shuttering, including sawn timber, plywood, and other wood-based sheets.
- Metal Formwork: Provides excellent release characteristics when applied to steel, aluminium, or other metal mould systems.
- Achieving High-Quality Concrete Surfaces: Essential for projects where a smooth, clean, and blemish-free concrete finish is required.
Benefits
- Effortless Shuttering Removal: Its primary function is to allow formwork to be removed easily and cleanly from set concrete, reducing labour time and potential damage to both the concrete and the moulds.
- Stain-Free Concrete Finish: Specifically formulated to prevent staining or discoloration of the concrete surface, ensuring a uniform and aesthetically pleasing result.
- Suitable for Timber & Metal Formwork: Highly effective on a variety of common mould materials, including wooden planks, plywood sheets, and steel or other metal shuttering systems.
- Economical Application: Offers excellent coverage rates (approx. 12-14m² per litre) and is not significantly absorbed by timber surfaces, making it a cost-effective choice.
- Ready to Use: Supplied as a ready-to-use liquid, requiring no dilution or complex preparation – simply shake well before application.
- Improves Formwork Longevity: By preventing concrete adhesion and enabling easier cleaning, it can help extend the life of valuable formwork.
Application Guidelines
Important Pre-Application Note:
- Always consult the relevant Health & Safety Data Sheet before using Cementone Concrete Mould Oil.
Surface Preparation:
- Ensure formwork surfaces are clean, dry, and free from any previous concrete residue, dust, grease, or other contaminants.
- Shake the container of Cementone Concrete Mould Oil thoroughly before use.
Application Method:
- Apply an even, thin coat of the mould oil using a brush, sponge, or soft broom. Avoid over-application, as this can lead to surface dusting of the concrete or affect the finish.
- Aim for a continuous film over the entire contact surface of the formwork.
Special Considerations for Timber:
- New, unsealed, or particularly porous timber surfaces should receive several applications of the mould oil before their initial use with concrete. This helps to saturate the timber and improve release performance. Allow each coat to be absorbed before applying the next if necessary.
Crucial Application Restrictions:
- DO NOT apply Cementone Concrete Mould Oil by spray.
- DO NOT use this product on plastic moulds or form liners.
- DO NOT apply in freezing conditions or if temperatures are expected to fall below +5°C during the application or initial concrete setting phase.
Cleaning Up:
- Clean all tools, brushes, and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use, before the product dries.
Storage & Shelf Life
- Store and transport the container securely in an upright position, ensuring the cap is fully closed.
- Cementone Concrete Mould Oil has a shelf life of up to 24 months from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, unopened packaging.
- Store in cool, dry conditions, within a temperature range of +5°C to +25°C.
- Keep away from direct sunlight and protect from frost.
Considerations & Precautions
- Always adhere to the application restrictions: do not spray, do not use on plastic moulds, and never apply in freezing conditions.
- Over-application may lead to retardation or dusting of the concrete surface. Apply a thin, even film.
- For any application scenarios not explicitly covered by the datasheet, it is recommended to contact Bostik’s Technical Services for advice.
