What Is Blue Circle Snowcrete?
Blue Circle Snowcrete is a premium white Portland cement (CEM I 52.5R) designed for architectural and decorative applications.
Unlike conventional grey cement, Snowcrete delivers a durable, visually striking white finish - ideal for projects that call for a clean, bright aesthetic.
High in strength, it is commonly used in cast stone, precast concrete, paving slabs, terrazzo, and architectural renderings. Snowcrete also conforms to BS EN 197-1 CEM I 52.5R standards and carries a CE mark, ensuring consistent performance and quality.
Please note: Shade variations may occur as Snowcrete is made from natural materials.
Applications
- Cast stone
- Precast and in-situ concrete
- Cladding panels
- Paving slabs and blocks
- Kerbs, bollards, and road markings
- Terrazzo flooring
- Floor and wall tiles
- Street furniture
- Renders and pointing mortars
- Tile grouts
- Swimming pool finishes
Benefits
- Bright white colour for a clean, decorative finish.
- Can be combined with light-coloured or pigmented aggregates.
- Does not contain any white pigments or additives.
- Higher early and later strength than standard Portland cement (CEM I 42.5).
- Naturally low in Chromium (VI) (below 2ppm).
- Versatile for structural and decorative use.
How to Use Blue Circle Snowcrete Cement
- Mixing - Use the correct proportions of cement, aggregates, and water to achieve the desired strength and finish.
- Application - Apply in traditional mixes suitable for concrete, mortar, and render applications.
- Curing - Ensure the cement is cured correctly to maintain finished strength and prevent cracking.
- Environmental Considerations - Do not use when air temperature is below 5°C or above 30°C.
Understanding CEM I 52.5R
CEM I 52.5R is a classification under BS EN 197-1, providing key information about the cement’s composition, strength, and performance:
- CEM I - This indicates that the cement is pure Portland cement without secondary constituents, ensuring high strength and consistency.
- 52.5 - This represents the compressive strength class, meaning the cement achieves a minimum strength of 52.5 MPa (megapascals) after 28 days of curing.
- R (Rapid) - This denotes rapid early strength development, meaning it gains strength more quickly compared to standard cement of the same class, making it ideal for precast concrete and structural applications requiring fast formwork removal.
This high-strength classification makes CEM I 52.5R particularly suitable for demanding applications where early strength is essential.
Storage & Handling
- Store in a cool, dry place, keeping bags off the ground.
- Stack in a safe and stable manner.
- Follow correct manual handling procedures in line with The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
Health & Safety Considerations
Cement powder should be handled with care, as contact with moisture, including sweat or eye fluids, can cause irritation. To stay safe, it's best to wear gloves and avoid direct contact with skin or eyes.
