Product Overview
Oak Landscaping Sleepers with a 100mm thickness, 200mm width, and a 2.4m length. Manufactured from fresh sawn hardwood timber, these sleepers deliver inherent structural integrity and natural resistance to moisture and fungal decay without the need for chemical treatments. Their dense composition provides a stable foundation for heavy-duty earth retention and hard landscaping projects.
The timber presents a natural grain aesthetic that silvers over time when exposed to UV light, blending seamlessly into organic garden environments. Characterised by a high material density and raw finish, the wood contains naturally occurring features such as knots and surface checking that do not compromise its load-bearing capacity.
Suited to structural applications requiring robust borders and raised beds, this unit provides a substantial volume of timber, measuring exactly 100mm x 200mm with a continuous span of 2.4m.
Features & Benefits
- Fresh sawn oak composition: Provides high density and natural structural strength for heavy load-bearing garden applications.
- Untreated timber profile: Remains completely free from chemical preservatives, ensuring safe contact with soil, plants, and vegetable beds.
- Natural weathering process: Silvers gradually upon UV exposure, delivering an organic and integrated appearance over its lifespan.
- Square cut edges: Enables flush stacking and tight joints across multi-tiered retaining walls and raised planters.
- High moisture resistance: Repels water ingress naturally through its hardwood composition, prolonging service life in damp ground conditions.
- 100mm x 200mm x 2.4m dimensions: Offers a substantial cross-section for maximum stability and soil retention, while the 2.4m length allows for rapid coverage of large boundary runs and structural spans.
Applications
- Retaining walls: Supports and holds back heavy soil loads on terraced or sloping ground.
- Raised vegetable beds: Creates deep, non-toxic growing zones safely isolated from surrounding pathways.
- Garden edging: Defines clean, durable borders between lawns, pathways, and planted areas.
- Exterior steps: Forms robust, impact-resistant treads for changing elevations in landscape design.
- Structural seating: Functions as heavy-duty, permanent benches when integrated into patio or firepit designs.
Installation Guidance
- Sub-base preparation: Lay a compacted aggregate trench or concrete footing to ensure level placement and prevent subsidence.
- Moisture barrier application: Install a damp proof membrane between the timber and the soil to restrict direct ground moisture transfer.
- Mechanical fastening: Secure intersecting timbers using heavy-duty timber screws or coach bolts measuring at least 150mm in length.
- Lifting and handling: Utilise a two-person lift or mechanical handling equipment due to the inherent weight and density of fresh sawn hardwood.
- End grain sealing: Apply a clear wax or specialised end-grain sealer to any freshly cut ends to minimise rapid moisture loss and excessive splitting.
Compliance & Performance
- Material specification: Manufactured from fresh sawn European Oak sourced from responsible forestry operations.
- Durability classification: Functions as a naturally durable hardwood, expected to provide extended service life in above-ground applications without chemical intervention.
- Dimensional tolerance: Experiences natural shrinkage and slight dimensional variation as the fresh sawn timber dries and acclimatises to the environment.
- Aesthetic variations: Develops inherent characteristics such as knots, waney edges, surface checking, and colour variations that do not indicate structural failure.
- Important note: Always wear heavy-duty protective gloves during handling to prevent splinters, and employ safe manual handling techniques due to the substantial weight of the 2.4m hardwood sleepers.

How delivery works
We work with a nationwide network of trusted suppliers. Items in your basket may be supplied by different suppliers and delivered separately. Where this applies, you will see delivery charges shown at checkout for each part of your order. We always aim to group products from the same supplier to keep delivery costs as low as possible.
Delivery areas
Delivery charges apply to mainland UK, excluding: AB, CA, CF, DD, DG, EH, EX, FK, KA, KW, KY, IV, LA, LD, LL, ML, NP, PA, PH, PL, SA, SY, TR, TQ and TD.
If your address is in one of these areas, we will contact you before processing your order to confirm any additional costs. We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK mainland.
What to expect on delivery day
- Deliveries are typically kerbside.
- Please ensure someone is on-site to accept delivery. For heavier items, help with offloading may be required.
- Many building materials arrive on large vehicles. If access is restricted, a specialist vehicle such as a HIAB may be required and could incur an additional charge.
Why delivery can cost more than typical parcel delivery
Building materials often travel on larger vehicles and usually carry fewer drops per run than parcel networks. That is why delivery charges can be higher than standard e-commerce shipping.
Returns
Returns depend on what you have bought and whether there is anything wrong with it. For full details on eligibility, timeframes, and exclusions, please see our full policy.
